Hate crime, racial motivation

My guess

Wouldn't hurt to get kids this age into some oriental martial arts, Krav Maga, or just a little something that gives them an edge for a split second.

Bullies don't seem to like it AT ALL if they suddenly have to take a little of what they are dishing out.

Shouldn't the headline read;

Fist Violence Shatters Mom's Fierce Shield

If he had been shot, there is no doubt the headline would have proclaimed 'Gun Violence'.

Seeing the Mom on the news this morning was heartbreaking. No word yet if this was racially motivated, but the perp is black and the victim was white, so we’ll never hear about it.

We also have a new problem in Baltimore where roving gangs of 10 to 25 black youths are beating up white tourists around the inner harbor. Again, no one says if it’s racially motivated, but the victims appear to be almost all, if not all, white and the perps appear to be all black.

Sounds like Capt Waltemeyer is trying to ease folks into the idea of lesser charges down the line, and a lesser sentence. Pity Mrs. Adkins’ sentence is permanent, mourning a boy murdered for no reason...

Small towns like this best jump on it hard and fast or they will become the Bloods and Crips. The police best get their acts together, or replace them.

Ice hockey? probably a white kid, and not many white kids are named Javel. No race was mentioned (that I noticed) so of course it’s a black-on-white crime.

"Anne Arundel police are oblivious to these groups and don't want to talk about it. The schools and the community don't want to admit it, either, but county residents need to know that these issues are here like everywhere else," Adkins said. "Don't let these pretty little brick homes fool you. It's not all it's cracked up to be."

The boy spent a few hours with childhood friends after a family funeral, was seen by rivals, and now he's dead. Gang violence is coming to a neighborhood near you. When human life means nothing, it's easier to justify harming humans. "It's the culture, stupid."

I had this problem with my stepson in a combined elementary and middle school here in Shreveport, LA. The counselors were worthless and would not talk about the “ gang” situation that was occurring in the school. I pulled him out and placed him in a Magnet school in 2 days. A Vice Principal at a high school told us, the School Board had given orders that no one was to talk about the situations like this in the schools. It is a scary feeling when your child is afraid to go to school. It took me a week to get the information out of him, why he was wanted to avoid going to school. As soon as I did, the phone calls started and when I did not receive a call back on the second morning, he was in a different school that afternoon.

“...he hit his head on the street...”

This is very sad. My best friend’s brother, age 10, died from the same cause - knocked off of a bicycle, he hit his head on a paved street - and no gang was involved. He died from skull fractures, injuries a helmet would have prevented.

Both boys had moms that were very protective of their kids but neither child wore a helmet.

A helmet won’t protect a child from violent peers, but that is whole other argument. It is sad that he died from a head injury in fall from a bicycle, something that needn’t be fatal.

First, has Obama expressed deep regret over the tragic loss of this child’s life?

Second, has Eric Holder pledged to send US Marshals into neighborhoods like this so that it won’t happen again?

And third: It sounds like he wasn’t wearing a helmet. He was on his bike, it said, and he was hit and fell down and hit his head on the pavement. If he was wearing a helmet he probably would not have been hurt.

Just to say that this mother was very paranoid, and apparently rightfully so, and it makes me wonder why she wouldn’t force him to wear a helmet when riding his bicycle.
