The Genius of Rush and Newt: How they've successfully tilted the media to the right (Huh?!)

WASHINGTON--A media environment that tilts to the right is obscuring what President Obama stands for and closing off political options that should be part of the public discussion.

Yes, you read that correctly: If you doubt that there is a conservative inclination in the media, consider which arguments you hear regularly and which you don't. When Rush Limbaugh sneezes or Newt Gingrich tweets, their views ricochet from the Internet to cable television and into the traditional media. It is remarkable how successful they are in setting what passes for the news agenda.

The power of the Limbaugh-Gingrich axis means that Obama is regularly cast as somewhere on the far left end of a truncated political spectrum. He's the guy who nominates a "racist" to the Supreme Court, wants to weaken America's defenses against terrorism, and is proposing a massive government takeover of the private economy. Steve Forbes, writing for his magazine, went so far recently as to compare Obama's economic policies to those of Juan Peron's Argentina.

Democrats are complicit in building up Gingrich and Limbaugh as the main spokesmen for the Republican Party, since Obama polls so much better than both of them. But the media play an independent role by regularly treating far right views as mainstream positions and by largely ignoring critiques of Obama that come from elected officials on the left. This was brought home at this week's annual conference of the Campaign for America's Future, the progressive group that supports Obama but worries about how close his economic advisers are to Wall Street, how long our troops will have to stay in Afghanistan, and how much he will be willing to compromise to secure health care reform.

How far to the left do you have to be to think that Mr. Obama is a "moderate" in the political middle-of-the-road?!

EJ is even duller of wit than I thought. The news cycles that feature baraq’s critics take on the cast and tenor of ridiculing the latter while extolling and exonerating the former. The sole purpose is to keep him from being swiftboated. The usual method is to isolate, freeze, ridicule and destroy anyone who has the insolent temerity to place himself athwart “their boy”.

So, an observant fellow would have noticed the conversations moving to the left, to be sure; but more than that, the conversations are moving in such a way as to finagle the whole discourse toward the center of their cultish universe.

This guy’s definitely gotta stop with the airplane glue.

If today’s Mainstream Media can be classified as right-leaning, then Pravda and Izvestia are moderate!

The existence of even a small number of conservative views in the Govt Run Media indicates a failure of that media, at least to the left.

Dionne may be the worst of the worst. Certainly, he’s a contender for the title, and just getting worse as the years limp by.

For a second, I thought this was another on of Semmens’ satire pieces. The MSM is making it hard to tell the difference anymore.

In addition to his duties at The Post, columnist E.J. Dionne also serves as Chairman of the National Organization for the Repeal of Marijuana Laws (NORML).

Of all the Obama lap-dogs, Dionne is probably the one who is most loyal and slavish towards his master. Obama could smash kittens on video-tape, and Dionne would find something good about it. Whenever The Great Spreader bloviates, Dionne is running around his master seeking his approval yipping excitedly to get his master’s attention.

The power of the Limbaugh-Gingrich axis means that Obama is regularly cast as somewhere on the far left end of a truncated political spectrum.

This statement is utter nonsense! Limbaugh reluctantly gets the attention of the MSM because he makes more money than they do because he has a much higher listenership than anyone in the MSM.

The dwindling audience of the MSM would dwindle even more if they ignored Rush as they ignore Savage. Also the "spin" of the MSM on what Rush says is always negative as they attempt to portray Rush in a bad light.

The article itself demonstrates the negative spin of the MSM. In this country it is difficult to find examples of responsible, intelligent journalism, IMO.

Looks like Barney Frank’s illegitimate son, except I doubt Barney’s had much female company, if you know what I mean.
