Mubarak Absent from Obama Speech; Boycott or Coincidence?
Israel National News ^ | June 4, 2009 | Israel National News Staff

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will not be among 3,000 people to attend U.S. President Barack Obama’s historic speech shortly after noon Thursday, a possible bad omen for the American leader trying to win respect in the Muslim world.

The official reason for his absence is the death of his 12-year-old grandson, but the child died in mid-May after health complications. Mubarak’s eldest son Jamal will stand in for his father, according to the independent Egyptian daily al-Masry al-Youm. Jamal is viewed as the future heir to take over as president of Egypt.

Combine this with the many snubs he got on the receiving line in Saudi Arabia and zer0’s trip to mollify the muslims might be a complete and counterproductive failure.

Could the reason Mubarak doesn’t want to sit in public with the jug-eared one be that he recalls what happened to Anwar Sadat?

Italy: 60% of mosques run by Muslim Brotherhood 60% of the mosques in Italy are possibly controlled either directly or indirectly by Islamic fundamentalists, according to Alexandre Del Valle, a French researcher from the University of Paris and an expert on the Arab world. Del Valle says that more than 50%, maybe even 60% of the mosques in Italy are run by fanatical imams linked to the UCOII and the Muslim Brotherhood. He says the Italians should also be suspicious of financing initiatives by moderate Muslim states, such as Morocco. Del Valle also warns against halal butchers. While only 5%...

CAIRO (AP) - Egypt's most powerful opposition group, the Muslim Brotherhood, on Saturday called President Barack Obama's upcoming trip to Egypt "useless" unless the U.S. shows dramatic change in its policies toward Arab and Islamic countries. The White House on Friday announced that Obama would deliver a speech in Egypt on U.S. relations with the Muslim world on June 4 as he seeks to repair damaged ties between America and Islamic countries. But the Brotherhood's deputy leader, Mohammed Habib, said he was skeptical about Obama's intentions, according to comments posted on the group's Web site. The trip will be "useless...

SNIPPET: "A trustee of an Islamic think tank in Northern Virginia that is long suspected of financing terrorists is expected to become the new head of the Muslim Brotherhood's chapter in Jordan. Ishaq Farhan is expected to be named interim head of the Islamic Action Front (IAF), which is the Muslim Brotherhood's Jordanian political wing, the Jordan Times reported. The move follows the resignation of IAF directors after a leadership dispute. Farhan also is a longtime trustee of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). He is listed on the organization's IRS Form 990s from at least 2005, through 2007,...

This week, CNN and Money magazine ran an article focusing on the role of faith in the personal finances of certain families. In the article which they published which deals with a Muslim family, we have discovered a whole slew of questions with regard to matters outside of personal finance which, not surprisingly, the lapdogs at CNN and Money totally overlooked, or perhaps ignored. The article is about the Saroya family from Pakistan who have settled in Minneapolis

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt -- Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood is on the defensive, its struggles reverberating throughout Islamist movements that the secretive organization has spawned world-wide. Just recently, the Brothers' political rise seemed unstoppable. Candidates linked with the group won most races they contested in Egypt's 2005 parliamentary elections, gaining a record 20% of seats. Across the border in Gaza, another election the following year propelled the Brotherhood's Palestinian offshoot, Hamas, into power. Since then, Egypt's government jailed key Brotherhood members, crimped its financing and changed the constitution to clip religious parties' wings. The Brotherhood made missteps, too, alienating many Egyptians with saber...

"Brotherhood" Invited To Obama Speech By U.S.

A sign that the Obama administration is willing to publicly challenge Egypt's commitment to parliamentary democracy: various Middle Eastern news sources report that the administration insisted that at least 10 members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the country's chief opposition party, be allowed to attend his speech in Cairo on Thursday. The brotherhood is a Salafist/ Islamist party with branches in many countries, and it does not have a reputation for liberalism and has supported violent campaigns against Israel (and Egypt's own government). It has deep roots in the region and traces its intellectual lineage to Sayyid Qutb, a top American-educated...

CAIRO — The most sought-after tickets in Cairo this week are for Obama's speech tomorrow at Cairo University, and there's been widespread speculation about who would get invites. Would the audience of 3,000 plus people include members of the Muslim Brotherhood? Would it include political dissidents who have challenged Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak’s 27-year rule? Would it include prominent bloggers who have exposed torture in Egypt? The answer is: Yes. Among those to receive invites are 10 of the 88 lawmakers associated with the Muslim Brotherhood; Ayman Nour, the Egyptian politician who spent more than three years in prison after...
