Sotomayor made nearly identical “wise Latina” comment in 1994

Oh my: Sotomayor made nearly identical “wise Latina” comment in 1994, too

Leave it to Greg Sargent to conclude that the big scoop here is that no GOP senators pressed her on the earlier remark at her ‘98 appellate confirmation hearing, where the scrutiny’s normally a fraction as intense as it is for a SCOTUS appointment. The real significance, of course, is that it puts the lie to the White House’s feeble spin about how Sotomayor supposedly misspoke in 2001, a position the nominee herself has been forced to adopt even though people on her own side admit it’s nonsense. Evidently, the idea that her biology makes her a superior judge has been with her for decades. The only wrinkle: In 1994 she insisted it was her gender that made her “better” and by 2001 that notion had evolved to include race as well. Nice to know that her progressivism became more “sophisticated” over time.

Here’s what she said in the 1994 speech:

Justice O’Connor has often been cited as saying that “a wise old man and a wise old woman reach the same conclusion in dueling cases. I am not so sure Justice O’Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes the line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, if Prof. Martha Minnow is correct, there can never be a universal definition of ‘wise.’ Second, I would hope that a wise woman with the richness of her experience would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion.

WHat in the hell is "richness" of experience?

Something impossible to quantify, so you can just claim you have it and no one can argue you don't.

A truly wise individual has the wisdom to never inform everyone how wise he or she is.

"I would hope that a wise woman with the richness of her experience..."

Has anyone yet asked this repetitive clown to give specifics about what made her experiences so much "richer" than those of others? Was it all the private schools she attended? ...or was it the prodigious amounts of rice and beans she ate?

What the GOP did or didn't do regarding Clinton's appointees is irrelevant. Back then there was 'comity in the senate' and a president's picks got approved with a rubber stamp. The only factor was 'qualifications', which was why Ruth Buzzy sailed through -- she was qualified.

It wasn't until Dubya got elected that the RATS, especially Chuck the Schmuck, brought politics into it and said that now ideology was a deciding factor. The RATS 'declared war' on all appointments.

What bothers me is that she gives no credit to the country she was born in that gave her all her opportunity. Her ‘richness’ comes from Puerto Rico! And she thinks little of “Americanization’.

In College Thesis, Sotomayor Appeared to Support Puerto Rican Independence
[snip]Ms. Sotomayor was born in the Bronx of Puerto Rican parents, and her pride in her roots is evident as she dedicates her paper “to the people of my island – for the rich history that is mine.”

Ms. Sotomayor’s apparent support for Puerto Rican independence reflected her concern over preservation of the island’s culture. She wrote: “The experiences of Alaska and Hawaii since statehood with cultural destruction has been indicative of the cultural loss Puerto Rico would eventual [sic] face if statehood for the island were chosen. Under the commonwealth status, there has been a gradual deterioration of the Spanish language among the Puerto Rican populace and a growing Americanization of the island.”

You got it. In the view of Sotomayor and her ilk, becoming an American is essentially selling out. ....giving up one’s “richness.”

Indeed. The bigger picture is...is her nomination even Constitution?

That is, how can someone BORN with British citizenship be considered a Natural BORN Citizen of the United States and therefore a Constitutionally qualified POTUS?

Of course, they can't. Therefore, her being nominated by someone who isn't even Article II section 1 eligible to hold the office by which her nomination was made...isn't valid.
