TEHRAN, Iran - Shots were fired Monday at a rally by pro-reform presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, apparently by pro-government militia.

An AP photographer said militia fired at the opposition protesters, killing at least on person.

"There has been sporadic shooting out there ... I can see people running here," added a reporter of Iran's English-language Press TV.

"The FAIRNESS DOCTRINE on steroids..."

Uh-huh, precisely Phil.
Totally run amok.

Then again didn't zerO say he was, what, "thrilled" over the election?
And I'll go so far as to say by extension, the results.

While the rest of America?
They *still* don't get-it.

From Details of deadly Iran protest shooting vague, and reports election was stolen

.............."Pulling out two of the most interesting bits of twitter and bloggerati, here are two reports about the major developments of the day, first the shooting of protesters in Tehran's streets, from AFP:

One protestor was shot dead and several were wounded during a rally in Tehran on Monday, a local Iranian photographer told AFP.

The incident occurred in front of a local base of the Basij volunteer militia, which was set on fire, the photographer who declined to be identified said, adding that the dead man had been shot in the head.

Pictures of the incident which AFP saw showed armed men, wearing helmets and in civilian clothes, pointing guns at the crowds from the rooftop of the Basij base.

The photographer said that the dead man was killed by shots fired by these men from the rooftop.

An AFP correspondent at the rally also said that Iranian police had clashed with protestors and that crowds of people were seen fleeing.

Witnesses told the correspondent that the clashes erupted at the end of the rally when armed men dressed in plain clothes who did not appear to belong to the police force started shooting at people."..........

The people of the Middle East are not freedom loving. They may not like their current despots but they're not ready to whistle "Yankee Doodle" yet, either.

Hasn't Iraq taught us that, if it's taught us nothing else? Wasn't the removal of Saddam supposed to trigger a chorus of "hosannas" from the "freedom-loving" Iraqi people? It didn't quite work out that way, did it?

Iran would be no different. This is their fight, not ours.

Last night late there were reports of non-uniform wearing, arab speaking men among the crowds...., but with twitters it’s hard to confirm.

Obama is out pitching to the AMA his socialism which as of today is about a 60/40 it will be b*tch slapped in it’s current form. I suspect he will do nothing on Iran. He really is an incompetant sock puppet. he does’nt even know how to play the Washington game, his whole offense is the deep post. Too bad the Pubbies are stuck in the goalline defense right now.

The Iran regime has been using Arab militia for some time now. Their presence is nothing new.

President Obama, that odd combination of Neville Chamberlain and Joe Stalin, will do and say nothing that doesn’t help his agenda. His agenda is to have negotiations with the Tehran regime.

Great collection of pictures of the protests here:

Tehran is burning

They need as much media exposure as possible as the Iranian tyrants are shutting down as many outside contacts as possible.

“A preview of America’s next presidential election?
If that happened here, it would be a lot different. Americans have guns, lots of guns.”
And they have been buying up LOTS of ammo since the phony election in November. And if the mugabe thugs took shots at the American people, they would shoot back.

Bill Clinton was the same. He only cared about domestic policy because this is how you buy votes. Democrats in general abhor foreign policy and are too stupid to get it right anyways. Just look how 0bama and Hillary go around apologizing to foreigners

But Bill and Hillary Clinton and 0bama don’t mind getting on Air Force One and dropping in on foreign leaders. A road trip jazzes them up and makes them feel important

I fundamentally disagree with you, marshmallow.

Why would people in the ME desire bondage if given the opportunity to be free? Are they inferior human beings? Did God not create them in His image, as He did us?

I believe you are fundamentally wrong about Iraq as well. Just because al-Qaeda and Iranian thugs interfered with the liberation of Iraq doesn't mean that the people themselves do not desire freedom. They do, and they love the freedom they now have because of the courage of our troops and their (former) Commander in Chief.

And no one said anything about "fighting." A simple statement supporting freedom is all Obama needs to do right now.

Of course, he prefers appeasing dictators to supporting freedom for the oppressed, so he won't show the courage President Bush would in the same situation.

So true, pburgh01.

We have the opportunity of a lifetime to stand up against this "incompetant sock puppet" (perfect description), and I fear not enough will have the courage to stand up to him.

So far, there are about three......

Obama is a fraud who stands for nothing. An empty suit whose Rhetoric does not match his deeds and the real crime is that American Pravda state run media broadcasts praise and adoration for this hollow president and the hypnotized masses genuflect at his every word.

A real President Like George W. Bush would have taken the side of the People in Iran. Spoken out in their defense and offered aid and substance to the debate not just empty words.

They can say what they want about Bush but he was a man of his word not like the current resident of 1600 Penn ave.

We should focus efforts on getting McLame ruled ineligible so he cant screw us with ineptitude again in 2012. He will probably go ballistic and finally out the Kenyan in the process giving us a two-fer.

Typical Liberal Response. Millions must die and the threat must be existential before we engage. Then as in the years 1941 - 1945 it all resides in commitment, courage and lots and lots of luck.

We may very well be witnessing the fall of Democracy in the world.

That is scary because it shows they are on the side of the state. They know police action may become necessary here when enough people have had enough of the Obama regime.
