WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorney General Eric Holder says recent violent attacks show the need for a tougher hate crimes law.
Holder, speaking Tuesday at a luncheon for civil rights lawyers, noted the recent killings of an abortion doctor in Kansas, a soldier in Little Rock, and a guard at the Holocaust Museum in Washington.
He called the attacks brazen acts committed in once-unthinkable places, and said it is past time for Congress to strengthen hate crimes laws to prosecute violence based on gender, disability, or sexual orientation.

Ayers and Doran hate HATRED of this country and parents in their hearts when they engaged in a terrorist bombing campaign on America.
But the Left defends them and champions them. No investigations of those who pay to bring them in on speaking tours either.
Ok, I'll bite.......which category does the abortion doc fall under?
You bet.
“Whadayya want?”
“No mimes.”
“When do you want it?”
“Now!!”
Just say “no” to mimes.
We need to forgive the crimes of the past! SARC//
Clueless....
Robbing white folks at gun point is “nothing personal”.
Go away Holder you racist Loon.
Actually the reference to Little Rock must mean the soldier killed by the American-born Muslim convert. I’m surprised Holder included that one since the killer didn’t fit into his template of bad guys.
I just noticed, those are rubber nightsticks.
That’s what the Germans use, or at least they did 30 years ago.
You can hit a guy on the side of the head and in the same blow break his nose. I never tried it, but I suspect it works.
All of the "suspects" will be up for either the death penalty or life in prison without parole. Does Holder want to add a few extra volts or a few extra years to those penalties? Maybe the lethal injection can be done with a really dull needle to show that we're serious about hate crimes.
This inanity of ‘hate crimes’ just piles on more onto a very simple concept: You commit murder, you get punished. There shouldn't be any special circumstances - my life is of the same value as a policeman, a fireman, a mailman, etc. Is there any evidence that ‘hate crime’ additional penalties do anything to prevent crime? What was that? None?
Let's get to the truth of the matter - this is simply an end run to circumvent freedom of speech. It is to make giving an opposing opinion from the common liberal ideal as being a crime. It is to make the following statement evidence in a future trial: Marriage is for a man and a woman.
It has nothing to do with previous crimes, it has nothing to do with crime prevention, it has everything to do with making everything written and said which does not conform to the extreme liberal ideology a crime.
And why is violence based on those factors any worse than run of the mill violence?
They have made so many laws that I have started calling them “rules” isntead. Why not make “Envy Crimes” as well and we can note how the leftists promote envy and cause the crimes in their rants.

prosecute violence based on gender, disability, or sexual orientation
one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. The recent killings were not based on gender, disability or sexual orientation (i.e., sexual choice).
There will now be protected professions as well.
Or maybe because he was killed in a apostatic church, it’ll be claimed to be religious discrimination.
Holder is an idiot.
Great - let’s include a hate law against hating Christians!
And what do those three perps have in common?
That no stupid federal hate crimes law would have deterred them.
