New Yorkers have been keeping track of the national debt for two decades, thanks to a large billboard near Times Square. Now they're getting a chance to keep an eye on greenhouse gases.
Deutsche Bank [DB 61.68 --- UNCH (0)] unveiled a 70-foot tall carbon counter today in New York City that tracks the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The counter is meant to spur conversation, increase awareness about climate change and affect change.
"It makes this concept of climate change and greenhouse gases something tangible," said Kevin Parker, Global Head of Deutsche Banks Asset Management told reporters after unveiling the counter. We think the world is moving way too slow to fight climate change.

Let’s see how many people stand and weep for the world while standing in front of this thing?
Or how many tourists fly in from San Francisco to see the clock.
I just exhaled... oops I did it again.... and again...
I guess this number represents tons? ... or maybe pounds? Either way ... how do they know? Do they weigh it? Is this a lot as a percent of the total atmosphere? Or, maybe it’s not enough. IMHO this clock is a waste of money and the number is meaningless.
More meaningless propaganda. Does it track how much carbon is taken up by plants and the rest of the planet? I must have missed the part about carbon being a bad thing.
Someone with a lot of money ought to sue under the NY General Business Law for "deceptive business practices." At the very least, that might force DeutscH Bank to include some sort of disclaimer.
betcha all those spikes were during Letterman’s monologue...
It should count the percentage of atmospheric greenhouse gasses for which humans are actually responsible:
“0.28%”....”0.28%”...
Much more manageable number that way! lol
“I just exhaled... oops I did it again.... and again...”
Very good point...all those truly concerned about global warming should stop exhaling.
Works for me!
Does anyone see this is just like the big-calendar-in-the-sky from Atlas Shrugged?
