Choosing to not favor one religion discriminates against all?

The discrimination is against the concept of religion itself.

I am not so sure why it is so hard for you to see the discrimination when you nix attendance because of religious content but are willing to approve attendance because of a lack of it. By definition that is discrimination against gatherings with religious content.

Imagine if during Katrina the Coast Guard had refused to pick up religious people or evacuate churches or mosques and instead only agreed to pick up secular people or atheists on non-religious roofs in order to preserve separation of church and state.

That is an extreme example of the idea that government cannot provide certain services to a group of people because they have certain beliefs.

The current example is less extreme of course, but it is the exact same principle being applied. We will not provide overflights to you because you are espousing some religious beliefs....but we will gladly overfly any event that is not espousing religious beliefs.

That is discrimination against those espousing religious beliefs of all sorts.

In that world, the Air Force is free to entertain or support a Planned Parenthood event....or a Furry convention....but not support a tribute event for Air Force Chaplains....or a non-denominational prayer event for aviators. Such was never ever the intent of the founders.
