Swim Club Members: "Nothing to Do With Race"
NBC ^

Posted on 07/09/2009 9:10:48 PM PDT by traumer

The waters were still and the gates locked at the Valley Swim Club Thursday. Board members decided to close the private Huntington Valley, Pa. club for the day as it combats accusations of racism for booting 65 mostly minority day campers from its grounds without explanation late last month.

Creative Steps Day Camp paid The Valley Swim Club more than $1900 for one day of swimming a week, but after the first day, the money was quickly refunded and the campers were told not to return. Several campers said they heard pool members making racial remarks during their time inside the club.

Tempers further flared after the club's president John Duesler issued a statement Tuesday saying "There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club."

Club members, who were at the pool on the day of the incident, came forward Thursday to defend the organization.

"This has nothing to do with race," member Lori Slowinski said. "I paid my money for a private swim club…if they're gonna have it out to camps, then I want my money back."

Jim Flynn went right to the club president after the kids took the plunge into the pool. "I was the first person to talk to the president, because the pool was overcrowded," said Flynn. "As members we have nothing to hide. There's good people here."

He believes the club's closure for fear of protests is wrong. "I do not condone the club being closed today and I will not condone it."

“Just what the hell is a “complexion of a pool” anyway????”

Full Definition of Complexion
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/complexion

I think that the third explanation of the word is what he meant.

3. A viewpoint, inclination, or attitude: a conservative political complexion.

We are members at the local YMCA and I try to schedule my children’s swimming time around the YMCA camp kids swim time. The camp has gotten better and they only bring about 20 kids with them at a time now but when they leave the pool, it’s so nice and quiet.

Perhaps if these urban youths were not feral in their behavior, and had some kind of adult supervision, this would not be an issue. Sadly, to be a heathen is the norm in the ghetto. No personal responsibility, no sense of proper behavior, no thought of others: that’s the feral way, and it is near-universal in the ‘hood. It is the norm.

Isn’t that the truth.
I DON’T WANT TO BE RACIST. I DON’T WANT TO PREJUDGE BASED ON SKIN COLOR.

But they’ve given us no choice.

Seems to me they needed an hour set aside just for this group.....that was closed to members. I have been in groups that leased time like this. We did not expect to prance in at any time and annoy the regulars. We set aside a time and reserved the pool......and we were out on time.

I used to be on the board of a local private swim club, and it's probably pretty much the same as most of them.

The budget is usually a razor thin line between staying open and making cuts somewhere. But you learn pretty quick that if you piss off just a few families and they leave, your money saving idea wasn't worth it.

I can guarantee that the board I was on, they would have looked at the $1900 bucks a week, thought about the ramifications, and told the camp they can keep their money and send those kids somewhere else.

But we had a rule against kids at the pool without adult supervision too. The only exception we made to that rule was if the brat (sorry...kid :)had an older sibling watching them and we knew the older sibling wasn't a knucklehead.

Meanwhile, how many news stations and papers are covering the story of the white family recently beat by a gang of black thugs shouting “It’s a black world!” etc.?...........(crickets).......

Pissing in the pool does change the complexion of a pool, no matter the definition of the word. I can see these kids doing that and worse!

Let the kids go else where and reap havoc which I am sure they will do.

A large group of kids can be very hard to manage, especially in today's society. I attempted to take my 3 grandchildren with me to church and it was a fiasco, with them going in three different directions.

Apparently, whomever drew up the contract, didn't foresee all of the problems that a large group of children would bring and address each issue, such as time of day, number in pool at one time, shower before entering pool, etc.

A nephew of mine was banned from a public pool because of his disrespect of the rules. If he would have had friends with him, it could have been a disaster, before the life guard could have restored order.

Yeah, what you said.

we can no longer afford to give people the benefit of the doubt simply because we do not know them personally. Our tolerance in this area has the effect of shredding the fabric of our society. It has nothing to do with being hateful, racist, or biased. It is merely a desire to maintain our society and culture.

Things are coming to a head in this country.
