Jack Kelly - Looking down on Palin: Beltway elites can't figure out why the hoi polloi like her
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | July 12, 2009 | Jack Kelly

What do Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius and Jon Huntsman have in common? All were governors who resigned this year to pursue other opportunities, and did so without a peep of criticism from journalists or their fellow pols for "quitting" on the peoples of Arizona, Kansas and Utah, respectively.

I write not to belabor the news media's double standards with regard to Democrats and Republicans, or between other politicians and Sarah Palin. I want to highlight an observation made by Princeton Professor Angelo Codevilla:

"The distinctions between Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives, are being overshadowed by that between what we might call the 'Court Party' -- made up of the well-connected ... who see themselves as potters of the great American clay -- and the 'Country Party' -- the many more who are tired of being treated as clay," Mr. Codevilla wrote in National Review Online.

Ms. Napolitano, Ms. Sebelius and Mr. Huntsman weren't criticized for resigning to pursue other opportunities because the other opportunities they're pursuing are in government -- as secretary of homeland security, secretary of health and human services, and ambassador to China, respectively.

In the Court Party, the only thing more important than holding public office is seeking a higher one. Barack Obama in effect quit his day job as a U.S. senator (while still drawing his paycheck) for two years in order to seek the presidency. Mr. Obama drew little criticism for this, mostly because what he did was so commonplace. Sens. Hillary Clinton and John McCain did much the same thing.(continued)

The Sally Quinns, Maureen Dowds, and Peggy Noonans are pathetic in their criticism of Palin. Neither has truly accomplished anything that approaches the real-world achievements of Sarah Palin. They are exposing their inner selves in the most unattractive manner.

As I posted on another thread about the hit piece Noonan has in the WSJ, quoting:

"What she is, is a seemingly very nice middle-class girl with ambition, appetite and no sense of personal limits." So said Noonan of Palin!

In making such a sweeping judgments of a woman who actually has done something, as opposed to just writing about things, makes their judgments simply irrelevant.

Noonan, in retrospect, like a chameleon, simply may have absorbed the glow of Reagan, heard his ideas which he so clearly expressed, and was able to put them to paper in such a manner that she accumulated an overblown resume--one which has followed her till today.

She has overstepped her own "personal limits" in her analysis of Palin, the millions of Americans who understand Palin well, and in where her small mind believes Palin will be in the future. By so doing, she has revealed things about herself which she may not have intended.

In Laura Ingraham's interview with Quinn on Oreilly this week, Quinn did the same thing. Her pettiness and irrational conclusions simply revealed her own bias.

"no sense of personal limits"

Personal limits are for liberals, Peggy. You should know that by now.

I cannot believe I am writing this, but I believe, in my heart, that uhbama and michelle are unable to hide their disgust and ugly feelings about our country. I believe they want to take full advantage, to the point of creepy greediness, of the privileges of the Presidency and I would be willing to bet that they have spent MORE on their own entertainment at taxpayers expense in six months, than the Bushes did in four years.

They seem to think they have class but merely exude a sense of righteous privilege that the slobbering press which has access to them mistakes for confidence. It isn't, its pure greed and willingness to abuse others money, because they can.

Michelle should have a mantra that follows her EVERYWHERE she goes, it's an old one, but a goodie....

"Let them EAT CAKE!"

I think we need to get a campaign going to get Sarah to speak at the National Tea Party in Washington. could you imagine how literally millions of patriots standing with Sarah would make the entrenched vermin loosen their bowls bowels? the media could no longer ignore us.

There, fixed it.

And I think that's about the greatest way in the world for her to start working for a conservative take-back of the congress in '10 -- or to kick off a run for the presidency in '12, if she is going to do so -- which I certainly hope she intends to do..

Letters, faxes, and emails to her, everybody -- jump on this idea and see if she'll do it.

It is funny how the media is still trying to spin her behavior as bizarre, when it makes perfect sense to most normal people.

Now there's an "apple and oranges" comparison, is I ever saw one!!

Nice graphic. Gentlemen and ladies of the French nobility, no doubt, lining up for the guillotine?

AWhen are we gonna get one of them things and start cleaning house in Washington? (no pun intended, of course -- although I've heard of worse ideas))

This massive base thinks that by paying the taxes and doing the work, starting the businesses and rearing the children, caring for the parents and fighting the wars, they are doing the crucial stuff that sustains our country

Yeah- we actually think that since we FUND THE WHOLE FRICKIN THING, we ought to have a say ! How dare we !

They think they are criticizing Palin for a strategic mistake but the truth is they are threatened by someone who has more confidence in herself as an individual than as a member of the club.

She doesn't need them or their club, and that's why they are so frightened.

strong possibility that both Krauthammer and Rove still think Tina Fey’s silly portrayal of Sarah Palin was the actual Palin..

They aren't alone, by any means.

Going shallow: She can deliver a speech, work a crowd, tell a joke, and the camera loves her. (And she hot)

The same Freepers were quite successful at creating and disseminating misinformation about Fred Thompson, they think they can do it again.
