Gov. Beverly Perdue's Polling Numbers Plummet to Burris-Like Lows
PPP / N&O ^ | July 14, 2009

Posted on 07/15/2009 2:11:58 PM PDT by MitchellC

The Democratic polling outfit Public Policy Polling has released the latest approval numbers for NC Governor Bev Perdue:

Perdue continues sinking (PDF)

Raleigh, N.C. – Bev Perdue’s approval rating has continued its steady drop over the last month. From a high of 44% in March it went to 41% in April, 34% in May, 30% in June, and now down to 25% in July, Public Policy Polling’s newest survey finds.

55% of voters in the state disapprove of Perdue’s performance and 20% have no opinion. Her decline at this point is largely happening among Democrats. Last month 46% of them gave her good marks, but now just 38% do and a slight plurality of 40% within her own party say they disapprove of the job she’s doing. With independents she gets just 20% approval and with Republicans it’s 9%.

Raleigh News & Observer points out:

The firm has done polling on 48 out of 150 governors and senators and found only one with worse numbers – Burris, the Illinois senator whose appointment by ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich is under investigation.

PPP notes that Perdue's support has dropped throughout the entire state, among all groups:

Even among core Democratic base groups like African Americans (39%), and voters under 30 (22%) Perdue has seen a steep decline in popularity. [...] Perdue doesn’t exceed 30% approval in any region of the state and women are giving her the same 25% level of support that voters overall are.

Make that “Democratic-leaning,” not “Democratic.”

Not surprising.

A lot of newspapers did not endorse Tax Rev Bev so you know she has to be horrendous.

She was in the right place at the right time so she got to ride 0bama’s coattails.

Pat McCory was leading Bev until the financial crisis. McCory will be Charlotte Mayor until 2011. If Bev still has dreadful approvals, perhaps he can do a rematch in 2012.

She has earned whatever low poll numbers she gets. In fact you can’t poll enough in minus numbers to really say what I think of her.

I know a couple of people that were pretty close to Purdue and her campaign....both well enough so that I could ask "So, are you going to vote for this Purdue chick, or what?"

Neither one of them would say. One clammed up completely, the other would only venture so far as to say that Purdue was "The most politically focused person that he'd ever met", which is a lefthanded compliment if I've ever heard one.

Most of the people I work closely with....if someone was to ask me "Are you going to vote for Mr. X, your co-worker?", in general I'd say "Sure! He knows what he's about." or "Heck No! Guy is an idiot". In this case....nothin'. Just weird.

Agree that McCrory would have won in any other year. He steps down next year, with the mayoral race this year between Anthony Foxx and (likely candidate) McCrory’s pale shadow John Lassiter.

When asked about the “temporary emergency” 1% sales tax increase, the reporter wanted to know what guarantee we have that it will be temporary.. she replied “because I am the governor”. So now she is ma Bev (the last “temporary tax” of 1/4% is still in effect). Proposing 1.5 billion in new taxes and fees for NC, while giving Hollywood tax breaks. Her budget numbers never add up. Listen to Take a stand with matt Mittan 3-6, online chat is great because he will pass along your questions. I usually turn it off at 5pm cuz beck is on... Warning, Mittan is a libertarian, but aren’t we all leaning in that direction these days?

LOL, was it you who had the priceless observation that Perdue looks and sounds like Hank Hill’s neice from King of the Hill?

That was me. Our eponymous Gov. DueDue sounds just a tad better edumacated, though.

Couldn’t happen to a better elitist socialist pig.

Note to Gov. Sugar Dumplings.... here’s an honest to gosh real clue on how to become popular.

Repudiate everything socialist. Repudiate everything Obama. Forget about party. Forget about partisan politics. Our America-hating president is doing everything in his power to tear our country apart. When judgment day comes, anyone seen as being one his enablers and, worse, worshipers, will be DOA. Politically speaking. Side with America. Side with North Carolina. Side with our Founding Fathers for liberty. And you will be a hero. Side with Obama and his, or any other socialist concepts, and you will go down in flames. Much as you are now.

This is REALLY good advice, Bev. I am 100 percent you will not take it. Don’t say I never did anything for you. Can’t wait to say “I told you so.”

"...what guarantee we have that it will be temporary..."

"because I am the governor."

I would love to have seen the reporter laugh at her and say "no, that answer isn't going to eliminate the tax. So let me rephrase: because I've never seen a 'temporary tax' actually ever end, are you putting a sunset guarantee into the legislation, and if so, what's the deadline?"

I loved her answer, it truly shows her for what she is, a state dictator. Also, you can ask her all the questions you want to, she will clearly indulge you with an answer when it suits her. She has been in this game a long time, conditioned by Easley. We are going after Shuler next.

That’s been the case for a while, as it should be. Unfortunately it looks like they’re having a tough time finding a good candidate to unseat him. Ensign’s affair probably didn’t help.
