Gov. Beverly Perdue's Polling Numbers Plummet to Burris-Like Lows
PPP / N&O ^ | July 14, 2009

The Democratic polling outfit Public Policy Polling has released the latest approval numbers for NC Governor Bev Perdue:

Perdue continues sinking (PDF)

Raleigh, N.C. – Bev Perdue’s approval rating has continued its steady drop over the last month. From a high of 44% in March it went to 41% in April, 34% in May, 30% in June, and now down to 25% in July, Public Policy Polling’s newest survey finds.

55% of voters in the state disapprove of Perdue’s performance and 20% have no opinion. Her decline at this point is largely happening among Democrats. Last month 46% of them gave her good marks, but now just 38% do and a slight plurality of 40% within her own party say they disapprove of the job she’s doing. With independents she gets just 20% approval and with Republicans it’s 9%.

Raleigh News & Observer points out:

The firm has done polling on 48 out of 150 governors and senators and found only one with worse numbers – Burris, the Illinois senator whose appointment by ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich is under investigation.

PPP notes that Perdue's support has dropped throughout the entire state, among all groups:

Even among core Democratic base groups like African Americans (39%), and voters under 30 (22%) Perdue has seen a steep decline in popularity. [...] Perdue doesn’t exceed 30% approval in any region of the state and women are giving her the same 25% level of support that voters overall are.

Yo! As a Purdue Grad, and an unfortunate resident of NC under Perdue... keep the spelling straight!

My son’s observations of Bev:

Her brain would rattle around inside a flea’s skull.

I am sure McCory was ok, but can’t you get another (more conservative) candidate?? I know some were to the right of him in last years primary.

Durham, the Marxist Republic of Chapel Hill, and the influx of people escaping the sinking Yankee Clipper have turned us to a blue state. Electing anyone to the right of McCrory just wasn’t going to happen. The days of Jesse Helms are gone for good.

;( <-Sad Face, I used to be a N. Carolinian (and did live in Durham Co—Still a Big Duke U. Fan ;), I know what has happened (and since the race-baiters have actually gotten their way, the radical left has caused any conservative coation which could have been formed between conservative black-Republicans to be set back 20+ years.).

I KNOW; I FEEL YOUR PAIN. I Do not believe Conservatism Changes, and one would hope (AT LEAST TRY) running a true conservative, and maybe they would win, afterall it was still Mid-90’s when Jesse Helms last dawned the Title of “Mr. Senator” (and I was proud to have him as My Senator-even though I was just a “kid”). SENATOR NO, how I miss him; Sigh..

Thanks for the memories, though sad (at this time)!

Would you be so kind as to educate this Texan about how Gov. Perdue’s numbers dropped so fast? It’s interesting since she was just elected. You mentioned a tax increase — which alone ought to do it — but have there been other issues?

Off topic: I visited your neck of the woods recently. Absolutely beautiful country. Too bad about all the libs.

Well, NC is broke—not California broke, but still broke. The legislature is deadlocked staring at a budget deficit of something like $1.5 billion for the next two years, and all they’re talking about doing to close that gap is raising taxes, NOT cutting spending or waste. Large parts of the state are suffering from high unemployment and the loss of industry (manufacturing here has been devastated like it has everywhere else). We’re drowning in illegal aliens. People are nervous and scared about the economy, and they’re starting to figure out that Governor Dumplin’ is just another tax-and-spend liberal who’s planning to raid working peoples’ wallets to put money in the hands of the Usual Suspects (Raleigh fat cats, the teachers’ unions, etc.).

Plus she’s just dumber than a bag of hammers, or at least sounds it sometimes. McCrory should have been able to clean her clock, but she probably won because of two things—mainly Obama’s coattails, but also the natural suspicion that rural people “down east” have about anybody from big-city Charlotte.

Unfortunately for me, I live in the single bluest area in the state, Nifongville (Durham). 76-22 for Obama in 2008. The only way Bev couldn’t have won here is if she showed up to a campaign rally in Sheets Byrd’s old white sheet and hood.
