Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Friday that he'll oppose Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, lending his voice to a chorus of conservatives who've vowed to vote no on making the appellate judge the court's first Hispanic justice.
McConnell's announcement followed several days of Sotomayor testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, during which several panel members tried to unravel Sotomayor's views on race and determine if ethnic loyalty rather than judicial oath would influence her rulings.
A day earlier, Kentucky's junior senator, Republican Jim Bunning, said he also found the jurist "unsuitable to be a member of the United States Supreme Court."
In opposing Sotomayor, McConnell alluded to what he called "an alarming lack of respect for the notion of equal justice."

WASHINGTON Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor picked up her first Republican Senate backers Friday Sens. Mel Martinez of Florida, Richard Lugar of Indiana and Olympia Snowe of Maine virtually assuring her of an overwhelming confirmation vote.
Democrats control 60 Senate votes, and some other Republicans could join them when the Senate votes, probably in early August.
Martinez is doing his impression of Colin Powel.
"Suckers!"
She will NEVER get as many votes as Justice Ginsburg who received something like 97 votes. I suspect that Scalia spoke to some Republicans and requested they approve her. Scalia and Ginsburg are really good friends. They even went to Africa together. I guess politics is strange bed fellows.
Kentucky- I just might retire there. Seems like one of the last sane places around.
The democrook press, and Mitch McRino certainly despise Jim Bunning here in Ky.
After all he was the guy who every day rubbed everyones noses in the economic disaster our banking ,mortageing and insurance genius’s were setting the country up for.
Look, No democrook is going to be elected to the Senate next year here in the Bluegrass.
Not with the mess Ried and Pelosi and Obama are serving up.
Bunning does not need to sell out like McRino.
He will carry the primary because Trey Grayson will let him.
I see six more years for our Obstinant, Honest, in the face of all the crooks in DC’s face NKy Senator.
“McConnell, Bunning agree: They’ll vote no on Sotomayor”
Good.
Now they need to get off their butts and lobby every other Senator hard on why they should NOT put politics over country.
...Got Gov. Beshear, Mayor Newberry here in Lex, KY speaker StDumbo, Chandler, McConnell and all the rest of these incompetent reps, uppp, “Leaders” in the fedgov. Been here two years, KY is the same or worse than VA where I hail from, thinkin I should have moved to the wilds of Australia. I hope to have some time to explore that option...
...Maybe my vote fer Rand Paul will have an affect, effect...
I hope Rand Paul has an illustrious future in Ky politics, also. But I’m happy with the incumbent this time around.

They have the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot twice a year.
Few senators improve with age. Jesse Helms was definitely an exception to that rule. I think Jim Bunning may be another.
...Help me out, kid, I might have it wrong. Had other issues that have distracted me from politics and I haven’t done my homework. Is Rand Paul running for state office. I know US senators serve six years, but every two years, a third of them stand for election, or re-election. Thought it was McConnell, not Bunning in 2010. Which incumbent, are you happy with? I take a guess that it’s McConnell, Bunning is in his first term? Ahh, sorry, I’m so confused...
Bunning seems to enjoy being despised by the enemy for doing what he feels is right. People used to respect that, especially in the south. But I guess the south is getting wussified just like the rest of the county, just at a slower rate.
Olympia Snowe of Maine
__________
SNOWE? what a shocker. I hate those 2 Maine b*tches. They aren’t Republicans. They are liberals that ran as Republicans to get elected and screw the party.
WILL PERRY MASON WALK INTO THE SUPREME COURT?
Well stated!!
The quote makes it clear that the crux of the problem lies in Sotomayor's mindset, not in any bias in her opponents.
