If you haven't read it, you may find
The Man-Eaters of Tsavo by John Henry Patterson to your liking. The story deals with the hunting of two lions responsible for the deaths of 135 or so workers on the Uganda to Mombasa rail line in 1898.
I'm a pretty big lion fan. I found this girl at Okerfontein on the southern edge of the Etosha pan right after she'd made the solo kill. It was about 105, and she was pooped.

It will be interesting to see how many old farts in the forum know what we're talking about... I still use one, it's faster and less trouble than the electric gizmos.

I saw this post while scanning the "current comments" in New/Activisim, and I knew exactly what you guys were talking about. I kept mine for many years after I got out until I lost it somewhere. Best little can opener in the world.

So THAT'S where that came from! Mom & Dad had one in the drawer all the time I was growing up. When I asked her what it was, Mom even taught me how to use it.
Daddy was on Iwo. He's been gone twenty years now....

In the Old Corps, we used a keyhole saw. Wuss!Back in 1775, in Tun's Tavern, recruiting started for the new Marine Corps. The very first Marine enlistee came in, signed the papers and took an oath. He was then told to go outside and wait for the other enlistees to go through the process. They would assemble later on the front yard.
After a few minutes the second enlistee came out and had a seat on the steps, beside the first. The first man looked at the second and began, "Son, let me tell you about the Old Corps."

Your house cat looks at you every day, licks it lips and thinks damn I wish I were bigger! My cats look at me every day, lick their lips, and think, "Damn! I wish she'd feed me or rub my tummy or brush my coat or play with the birdy toy or... Oh Look! A squirrel!"

Yes. But of all the ways to skin a cat, chainsaw is probably the messiest. And leaves the pelt in the poorest condition.

Yes, that was one aggressive cougar, and after a married man!

In the old Corps - all we needed was the P38 Opener, Can, Hand, Folding, Type I can opener.. The one I have on my keyring is the same one I had in 1970. It has held-up better than I have.

Or the slightly larger P51. ;) Yes. a P-51 was slightly larger.
They were real good at straffing trains and trucks, shooting down airplains, and all kids of other goodies; but I never open a C-ration can with one.

Yes, that was one aggressive cougar, and after a married man! Well, being a married man, what do you expect? -- a cat trying to eat him alive is probably old news to him.

Yet another news story highlighting the "ex-Marine" status of the person, when it has absolutely nothing to do with what happened.
I especially love the "ex-Marine" stories in the media about 80 or 90 year old men.
For example: Ex-Marine, 86 year old Cleveland man fends burglar.

Good thing you have your own gear since I donated my last fire suit on another thread to someone who really needed it.
