CODY, Wyoming - Wielding his chain saw as a weapon, a former U.S. Marine says he fought off a starving mountain lion that attacked him while he was camping with his wife and two toddlers in northwestern Wyoming.

Dustin Britton, a 32-year-old mechanic and ex-Marine, said he was alone cutting firewood about 100 feet from his campsite in the Shoshone National Forest when he saw the lion staring at him from some bushes.

Britton revved his 18-inch chain saw and tried to back away. But the 100-pound lion followed.

Isn't it amazing how those damned openers have survived and endured?

Just to get a little sentimental now — simply recall the faces and names of the brothers we lost, who ate from a can of C-rat Ham and Lima beans or Meatballs with Beans in Tomato sauce you opened during a miserable rain storm, with the very same P38 you still use today.......

I hope now, in their new AO - they have better chow, served in a more peaceful environment....

Did you even once, ever dream that a can opener could become a cherished link and reminder of the past?

And they were free, five to a case. Whod a thunk it?

"And they were free, five to a case."

Actually, I never considered anything the Government provided as "free"..... We paid a horrible price for everything they "gave" us in the Corps.

All the stupid bastards who voted for Leftists/Marxists posing as Democrats are soon to learn that lesson..

I was hunting elk in the back woods near Two Dot in Montana one year. I had a nice perch sitting on a ridge with plenty of sign that the elk were moving through into the lower fields at night to feed. Just as it was getting dark enough I had to leave a fricking mountain lion let loose with one of its growls and I swear to God it was just a couple of feet behind me. I spun around but the brush and darkness kept me from seeing anything further than about 5’ from my nose.

It was a long, dark walk out of the woods alone that night.

When I was a boyscout I was taught to ‘be prepared”. Thus my knife with about 237 different blades, cork screws, pliars, you name it. Never could find one with a chainsaw tho........

Yes. a P-51 was slightly larger.

They were real good at straffing trains and trucks, shooting down airplains, and all kids of other goodies; but I never open a C-ration can with one.

Silly wabbit.

Of course you can open a can with a P51.

I've found that, when trying to open a can, they're kinda clumsy to handle -- the wings and prop blades get in the way, and sometimes the landing gear comes down on your toes.

We've had mountain lions wandering the campus at Idaho State University in Pocatello. One even decided to go "hunting" along a canal that sits behind a bunch of backyard fences. A few folks lost pets in their fenced yards to the hunting kitty.

It's all in the way you hold the can relative to the prop. And make sure the supercharger is disengaged.;)

BTW, what's the genesis of your screen name, as the A20 was a WW2 plane.

Gentlemen, I just want to know the Brand of chainsaw (my guess would be Stil). I have three different makes and none will run when I absolutely need them.

Thanks for the heads-up on the P38 opener. Would have been handy this week . . .

Got one on my wall that followed me on the wrong night as well........they get hungry they get bold. It was 2 inches shy of a state record in lenght and I forget how much in weight when I took it down to fish and game .

I have found tracks many times where I was hunting so I know I was stalked yet the kitty on the wall is my lone up close and personal encounter. She just wouldn’t back off and leave.

Our camp safety gun is a remington marine magnum 870 we put brownells orange furniture on with a surefire forend. It is ugly but easy to find and loaded with one number 9 round (first to chamber to dust / sting a critters paws vs kill it) 00 is next few if rounds and rest is slugs, ...... it serves it’s purpose when in dangerous game areas.

Aside from that I pack either a SW329PD or my Glock 20 on my belt and we sometimes have the pups along to hopefully give us an early warning.

Back in 1775, in Tun's Tavern, recruiting started for the new Marine Corps. The very first Marine enlistee came in, signed the papers and took an oath. He was then told to go outside and wait for the other enlistees to go through the process. They would assemble later on the front yard.

After a few minutes the second enlistee came out and had a seat on the steps, beside the first. The first man looked at the second and began, "Son, let me tell you about the Old Corps."

That's hilarious.
