Yep.
In one of the shittiest areas possible, Highland Park.

Out there on the interweb, somewhere, is a great photo-essay done on Highland Park.
The photographer travelled through out that dilapidated and abandoned shithole, taking some incredibly revealing photos.

One series was filmed in the Highland Park police headquarters, which looked as if the police had abandoned it in the middle of the night. Old mug shots, criminal records and even gun parts scattered throught the station.

Originally, Gran Torino was set in Wisconsin or Minnesota (?), but they thought a Detroit scenario would be more relevant to the audience.

“The revolt is only a matter of time. The spark will either be the Obamaloon health or the Obamaloon Cap and Screw program.”

You have more confidence in the people than I. Frankly, I think they’re too concerned about where Michael Jackson is going to be buried...because that’s what the press tell them to worry about.

That should be the firefighting model for ALL of Detroit.
The GM headquanters/RenCen should be a controlled burn, ASAP.

Democrats don’t bother electing multinational corporate lobbyists, they just appoint them as head of the treasury department or make them the TARP fund Czar.

It's rather odd how the GOP corporate globalists promise that "free trade" will cause "democracy" to filter down in China when they can't even get that theory to work in cities like Detroit, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, etc. etc. etc.

They don't call it "the stupid party" for nothing.

But...but...but......Democrats are for the working man!

Democrats are for the working man's vote - nothing more. That's all. Period. End of sentence.

"So yes, unless the GOP stops electing multinational corporate lobbyists"

That is the GOP/RNC. There isn't a populist bone in their body. Country club, mercantilist, fiat paper money, financialist. They, the RNC/GOP are just scrapping with Democrats for spoils and power. What the RNC/GOP say to 'Republicans' is just boob bait. Same as Democrats to theirs. Hey, Willie, hows that Detroit metro/raised light rail doing for them? I see Seattle just opened a 170 million dollars a mile( to build, not operate) rail. 10 passengers the first day. No car parking at any of the stations. Another corporate/welfare/Democrat/Utopian rape the taxpayer scheme.

This is a real shame. Have been through the airport there and it couldn’t have been more user-friendly for travelers. I loved it and it made an excellent impression for Detroit. Would go there (airport) again in a heartbeat...

It’s amazing how many burned out buildings are within just that small area of Detroit.

There are areas of Baghdad that look better.

Detroit is the antithesis of free trade. Run by Democrats for 50 years and it’s still the Republicans fault.

I like the way you think. I think Obama has a need for your services in the Department of Truth.

Is this Detroit property worth a Dollar?

The house is probably worth more than the land. At least the house can be lifted off the foundation and moved away from Detroit, but the land hast to stay.

Firefighters didn’t even put out the fire, they just kept it from spreading.

Maybe they should stop doing this also.

We should turn areas like this into legal “reservations”, small independent nations, and let human evolution there unfold naturally.

Any money given to help these cities is quickly stolen by the Democrats running the city. It’s a city run by criminals.

Detroit: The Triumph of Progressive Public Policy

http://www.mackinac.org/article.aspx?ID=10743

Excerpt:

Imagine a city where all the major economic planks of the statist or “progressive” platform have been enacted:

* A “living wage” ordinance, far above the federal minimum wage, for all public employees and private contractors.
* A school system that spends significantly more per pupil than the national average.
* A powerful school employee union that militantly defends the exceptional pay, benefits and job security it has won for its members.
* A powerful government employee union that does the same for its members.
* A tax system that aggressively redistributes income from businesses and the wealthy to the poor and to government bureaucracies.

Would this be a shining city on a hill, exciting the admiration of all? We don’t have to guess, because there is such a city right here in our state: Detroit For a video tour of Detroit go to:

It is funny that GM and Detroit is going the same road as 20th Century Motors and Starnesville.
