GOP Politicians Pandering to Birthers
Little Green Footballs ^ | July 22, 2009 | Charles Johnson

The insane conspiracy theory called the “Birther movement” is gaining support among Republican politicians. Now there’s actually a bill sponsored by Republicans that panders to these nuts. I hate it when I agree with Chris Matthews, but he’s right on this issue — this madness is embarrassing, self-destructive, and above all mind-bogglingly schtoopid.

And it’s spreading.

Because you can’t win this thing, that’s why.

B.O. has already produced a document, yet the birthers say it isn’t good enough. If he were to produce another document, you would say the same thing. He can’t win in this arrangement so he’s better off doing absolutely nothing and forcing the birthers to prove him wrong.

He’s smart playing it the way he is. He’s the POTUS, he’s been sworn in, he was on every ballot, he was certified by every Sec of State. As far as I’m concerned, because of all that, the burden of proof is absolutely NOT on him just because a small group of people want to see another document on top of the one that was ALREADY presented and ALREADY declared by Hawaii (led by a REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR) as legit.

This can only end badly for conservatives IMO unless there is indisputable proof that the birthers come up with. Otherwise, he’s just going to sit back and laugh at the right, all while the media helps him in the process.

The only way I would think differently is if you get a massive majority to demand to see some documentation, but right now that number is like 10% of the country so it screams lunatic fringe. It’s Vince Foster all over again which made us look stupid. It’s the 911 idiots from the left that made them look so stupid.

In order for this to work, you would have us believe that B.O. bought off the state of Hawaii, including the GOP Governor, the hospital he was born in, and also had to buy off wherever else he was actually born along with all the other people around. He would have to have bought off the schools he attended when a birth certificate was required at those schools, he would have to buy off the DMV for his Driver’s license, he would have to buy off every other place that requires it.

My goodness, with my kids, I have to bring a birth certificate even for them to play Little League.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t see that vast of a conspiracy happening that could pull it off. I just don’t. Not only that, the guy is stepping in his own feces daily right now so why are we throwing him a lifeline of stupidity and taking this guy’s ridiculous policies off the front pages?

He’s investing the million or so $ in ‘shovel ready’ jobs ;)

Forget the BC. I want to know if his passport or college certifications list him as a citizen of another country. A POTUS cannot have duel citizenship.

"what happened to LGF?"

I used to be a member there too, but I since CJ started riding his bike without a seat, I can't stand the place anymore.

I hate the way he trashes Robert Spencer (Jihad Watch) also.

Yes, the proof I have is that he produced a document from the State of Hawaii...part of the United States of America...that says he was born in the United States. Until someone presents proof that disproves this, that’s what I’m going on.

In the meantime, we look idiotic on this. Just my opinion, but I need a HELLUVA a lot more evidence from the birthers to convince me on this.

Again, I keep asking, why didn’t Hillary blow him out of the water with this? Why didn’t McCain and Palin? At the end, they knew they were going to lose, why not throw the hail mary pass?

I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out why
people on our side denigrate and vehemently condemn
us “birthers”.
The only clue that I have is that many are scared to
death that massive and deadly race riots will breakout
all over the country if Obozo is forced from office.

Is this the reason?

Maybe some. Others are just doing it because the believe Obama and don’t mind being a prick to those who don’t. Michael Medved comes to mind.

Do you think Obama’s refusal to provide proof of his birth is honorable or practical? He’s either being dishonorable or impractical. Which is it?

One other point which is not usually brought up is the military. So far, we've had one incident of an officer ‘refusing’ his deployment because of this issue. They canceled his orders, thus punting the issue down the road. I had heard somewhere that there are now something like 140 other military personnel that are going to be getting on-board with Oriz (sp) about this. Right or wrong, this issue is starting to have a demoralizing effect on the troops. What the hell kind of Commander in Chief would not want to immediately put this thing to rest for the sake of his troops?

Wow, really. Sigh. Nothing like having an opinion and being called an a-hole.

Sorry you feel that way. God Bless anyway.

It’s the same reason why the media portrays conservatives as religious zealots. The media is extremely willing to paint conservatives in any bad light they can, all this movement by the birthers does is give them ammunition in my opinion.

Look. You're just doing the same thing the media do by lumping all the what you call 'birthers' together. I doubt I have too much in common with a lot of the birthers. I am not Christian, I extremely dislike religion. I am a libertarian. I've lived in a foreign country for about half my life now and have no plans in the foreseeable future to return to the US.

But I want the man to show his birth certificate. I think it becomes a relevent issue once enough people are concerned about it. I think it becomes a relevent issue once the military starts having officers refusing to obey orders during a time of war.

I'm not crazy. I don't know who the hell you think you are to sort of lump us all in together and paint us as crazy. You're no different than the liberal media and the way they do things.

It's a legitimate question. And I think the longer it doesn't get answered the more stirred up people are going to get about it and they're going to get pissed off at being ignored. Hey, maybe in the end it will all be about nothing, fair enough. But there's nothing wrong with people who want to see it and people like you should stop saying there is.

You don't care about, you think he's legit, don't worry about it, go play kickball or something. Those of us who care about it will agitate.

I’m paying attention daily and I’m worried beyond belief at the 15+ czars (unconstitutional), the signing statements (he’s a hypocrite for blasting Bush when he’s doing the same thing), closing Gitmo, healthcare takeover, raising taxes on those of us that are successful, taking over GM and Chrysler, etc. Trust me, I get it. He scares the HELL OUT OF ME.

His approval ratings are dropping, people realize Change for the sake of Change is crap. Keep the change, I say.

I’d rather attack him daily on his policies and philosophy than going after a citizenship issue that CAN’T BE PROVEN! I don’t see how you can win this.

But hey, I’m out of touch

Then why did Rush bring it up again on his show the other day when talking about his own audit with the revenue department of New York?

I’d say he’s involved if he’s bringing it up.

Chris Matthews continues to have Andrew Sullivan on his Sunday show. The Andrew Sullivan who to this day has never addressed his obsessive belief that Sara Palin is Trig Palin’s grandmother. Sullivan wrote blog after blog calling out for Palin to post the babies birth certificate.

A conspiracy that is 10 times nuttier than the Obama birth Certificate “conspiracy”.

To see Chris laugh at people who only ask to see the birth certificate of the POTUS is other worldly.
