Shares of the venerable automaker are trading heavily today third most active on the NYSE and they were up more than 5% at last glance, after Ford said its U.S. light-vehicle sales rose 2.4% in July, the first monthly gain in 20 months.
Ford folks were effusive in their praise for the governments Cash for Clunkers program in a conference call to discuss the monthly results with analysts. The program so far seems to be living up to its premise as a win-win-win for consumers, the economy, and the environment, said Emily Kolinski Morris, a Ford economist.

Four to Five days of sales do not a month make. Pulling ahead sales doesn’t help the near future.
Short term, not likely. Long term, I think Ford is positioned well. I bought a few shares at 2.50. When I saw it at 8.50 today, I was tempted to sell, but held on.
However GM up 72% overseas, which means we threw all our money away in a trashcan made in china.
I’m just so d*mn proud I’m working my butt off so these people can afford to spend my tax money for a new car. /s
There seems to be quite a bit of pent up demand for autos and it certainly doesn’t seem to be going to GM or Chryler...so I think you have made a wise choice (unless Obama is permitted to crash the economy like he seems to want to do).

We give Obama all our cash, and he gives government clunkers in return!
Long before this concocted government scheme, the Ford F-150 was and is the best selling vehicle in American history.
Ford is going ahead as Government Motors is ready to turn out undesireable clunkers. Ford is now free to turn out what the public wants and if they do their homework, now is a MAJOR OPPORTUNITY.
