O.C. lawyer claims to have Obama's Kenyan birth certificate
Orange County Register ^ | 8/3/2009 | MICHAEL MELLO

A Mission Viejo-based lawyer claims to be in possession of a copy of what she says is President Barack Obama's Kenyan birth certificate.

Orly Taitz said the document could bring along a speedy resolution to a lawsuit she's handling, challenging Obama's eligibility to serve as the president. That is, even she admits, if it's genuine.

The Hawaiian state health director reiterated last week that he'd examined the pertinent documents and that Obama was indeed born there.

Over the weekend, Orly Taitz filed a motion in federal court for expedited discovery. Among the pleas, Taitz asks Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to make an official request to Kenyan authorities for authentication of the document.

"There are no ready means of authentication except by recovery of the original document," the motion states, noting Taitz's fear the original may be lost: "It is also apparent … that political pressure may be brought to bear to destroy all relevant evidence, whether such evidence exists within or outside the borders of the United States of America."

Taitz did not say how she came across the copy.

A photo of the purported document posted to Taitz's Web site shows a folded, typewritten document, embossed with a seal. It lists Obama's birth on "4th August, 1961, at Coast General Hospital" in the coastal city of Mombasa.

The document itself has a Feb. 17, 1964 date and reads, "Republic of Kenya." The date, Taitz said, is because it's a certified copy, not an original.

The Obama-friendly group Media Matters says the document is a forgery. It says that while Kenya gained it's independence in 1963, it did not become a republic until Dec. 12, 1964.

And BTW, It's Obama who must prove a positive, not us to prove a negative.

You're absolutely right:

8 CFR § Sec. 341.2 Examination upon application:

(c) Proof. The burden of proof shall be upon the claimant, or his parent or guardian if one is acting in his behalf, to establish the claimed citizenship by a preponderance of the evidence.

Source: USCIS

Note: the context is obtaining a "certificate of citizenship"

The Orange County Registar is one of the few biased papers still left. It resides in a largely conservative enclave.

Brown Shirt Media. Love it. Brilliance.

It is good, but it is not catching on. We need to shame and embarrass the media and if everyone on the right started calling them out by labeling them brown shirts, that would really kick them in the balls

Count me in. It hadn’t occurred to me before reading your post. I will use this term exclusively when referring to our media at this point.

Someone call the international "Use of the word Republic police". The Kenyans have violated the "Use of the word Republic law".

Some one should also report the NorKs, and just about half the bananna republics also.

While they're at it look at US, clearly we are now a National/Socialist nation.

Good. The lady pushing the Keyan birth certificate story called the interviewer on MSNBC a brown shirt yesterday, and it really really pissed him off, lol. The media has been doing this tactic far to long to the right, it is now time for payback. No more drive-bys or lamestreet, it is the Brown Shirt Media.

"The Hawaiian state health director reiterated last week that he'd examined the pertinent documents and that Obama was indeed born there."

Wrong, he/she said he examined the pertinent documents and that Obama is a "natural born citizen". He did not say Obama was born there. That's called parsing.

Obambi, show us the damn long-form Certificate of Live Birth. What are hiding?

Has the shillings / pence /cents question been debunked?

(I can think of a number of possible reasons for the price in British currency, but as I’ve written before we won’t be able to gain certainty on wether the document is true or false until a direct comparison can be made with other similar documents from the same time period.)

The Orange County Register is or at least used to be fairly conservative.
