Yeah...thats been big time on the news here. Also another shot of some house s-l-o-w-l-y drooping off into a river. All of these people should never have built where they did. And if you look real close...you can see that they were built with little to no foundation and pilings...and built on black sand. Which get very liquid when it rains for days at a time....Which it does here every year in MONSOON SEASON.
Frakin Idiots.
Also, the landslides you're seeing are the direct results of Betel Nut Tree plantations ILLEGALLY planted on hillsides.
The ground is cleared of vegetation and these things are planted.
Betel Nut..or 'bin lang' as its called here...is a major cash crop - read:unreported income producer. Its widely thought to be the 2nd largest money industry, after computer stuff, on the island.
Source of much "black gold" - bribes and payoff to politicians and police.
I'm in a bad mood...our water has been off since last saturday...its getting smelly here. We hope tomorrow it will come back on.

Oh...another thing...more bridges were destroyed in this typhoon than in the 'infamous' 921 earthquake.
No body count yet for the typhoon. Hopefully it will be low.
