Which is all true, the question still stands, what should be done, philosophically now?

The Republican Party and Conservatism has had as dogma what is good for business is good for the country, the Bush Era was all about catering to Multinational corporations, now they are more than willing to support robbing the people who supported them the most for the last 20yrs.

What John McCain, Charles Krauthammer and a bunch of our Conservative politicians recommended — separate insurance from employment.

This will have a double advantage - it will also make the insurance companies more responsive to free market pressures from consumers without the middleman.

In addition to separating insurance from employment there has to be the ability for individuals to pool so that they can bargain as a block. Eliminate state borders on insurance sales. Also there should probably be some high risk pool where the government like for auto insurance.

Insurance companies should be required to disclose their payment schedules to doctors and hospitals, and details of policies.
