Sparks fly at Sen. Brown (D-Ohio) health care forum

Verbal sparks flew at U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s forum on overhauling the health care system.

The forum, lasting nearly two hours, was held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, in Columbus at Ohio State University’s Biomedical Research Tower.

Mike NeutzLing, 56, a nurse at the Ohio State University Medical Center, blasted plans by President Barack Obama, Brown, D-Ohio, and others to overhaul the system. He said 80 percent of Americans are satisfied with he health care they have now.

Neutzling said “the whole concept of limited government is being tossed out the window.”

The nation’s founders “understood that when you have unlimited government you have unlimited tyranny,” he said.

Jeff Davidson, 58, a retired accountant from Dublin, strongly disagreed, urging Brown and Obama to come up with a plan to provides coverage for uninsured Americans.

“I want you to raise my taxes,” said Davidson. “I can afford it.”

The current system is “immoral,” he said.

Brown for the most part succeeded in keeping the discussion civil and interrupted several times to silence hecklers on both sides of the issue.

“This has been very helpful,” he said to the 150 people in the center. Hundreds more were in overflow rooms, according to event officials.

Brown set the tone for the forum with a blast at the current system.

“…Americans are paying more and more for their insurance and getting less and less,” said Brown, the son of a physician.

After the session, he told reporters he didn’t think the discussion was one-sided.

“If it was stacked, I’m not sure which way it was stacked,” said Brown.

We'll ask you again after they confiscate your 401(k) and convert it to Social Security.

Yes, Mr. Davidson would certainly change his tune upon a 'bank holiday' declaration.

Our politicians have many options from govt. health care at Walter Reed and Bethesda and many non-govt. options. These plans written by congress talk about options, but they have to get it in order to get all under govt. option.Know those writing it and what they have said/written. It ain't pretty.

My husband is a 24 year vet and he occasionally goes to VA. The care is uneven, depending on the luck of the draw--if you go, you take pot luck, and if you get a sorry physician, you are out of luck-no recourse. They do have some good programs--clinical pharmas who help direct your meds is very good--nearly all oldies are over medicated, which is costly and unhealthy AND expensive.

Of course our health care needs reforming--why is Medicare paying for statins for virtually everyone on the program (not us, we cannot take them)Why does Medicare furnish a motorized wheelchair for people? Even poverty level people could pay for at least part--I know two with free chairs who smoke daily--bet they spend 50 to 100 on their habit. Why do Medicare and Medicaid not check out/audit payees BEFORE they send the cash instead of trying to find the perps and collect it back later.

There are just too many areas NOW that need to be cleaned up. If you are denied by ins. you have a couple of resources--appeal, pay yourself, barter. You also have choices.

I do think it would do a lot of people good to attend some lectures on life choices and doing the best for their loved ones--i.e. I saw a friend put her husband thru horrible bouts of resuscitation every few days for months because she could not bear to let him go. He could not sit up, eat, speak, recognize her and there is no telling how much govt. aid was rendered because it was for HER, not her husband.

End of monologue--I do NOT want one payer govt. controlled health care--too much leeway for fraud, payback, meddling in our lives, and totally unfair for govt. to tell health care people what they can charge.

it’s not about the taxes anymore. it’s about rationing care so if he needs health care? too bad. He’s 58: too old and can’t produce anything of value to the Motherland.
Young illegals have priority. Take a painkiller, Jeff.

“It compared our system to the systems of the countries most like us (Germany,France, Canada,Japan) We pay more than twice as much in taxes and insurance premiums as they do yet the average life expectancy in all of those countries is at least 2 years longer. So if our system is so superior then why the difference????”
We could reduce the costs here by 30% overnight by hanging all the trial lawyers. Other considerations in the comparison would include:
Does any comparable developed country have as large a percentage of freeloaders being supported by the system?
Do other countries spend money for nursing home care or do they still take care of the elderly by keeping them in the family home? There are a lot of lifestyle differences other than the popular scapegoat ones of smoking and obesity that need to be examined when making comparisons. One that comes to mind is the overall trend that has changed the dynamics of the family unit in this country. Many families have to have two working parents to make ends meet. The Government has assumed the role of nanny, etc.
I also don’t believe that the other countries systems are nearly as idyllic as proponents make them out to be. There have been too many examples pointing the other way.
Finally, the whole premise that there is a problem with our health care system if false. The problem is the costs and the mistaken belief that it should be free to all.

Want to know a secret? Since O was elected, neither have I. My response is, “The Messiah has provided.”

Man, that’s kinda harsh and hard on the charities, since he ISN”T the messiah and hasn’t provided anything.

I’m still giving but wondering how long I’ll have much to give.

www.salutetheheroes.org is a good one. You may be fairly certain Obama ain’t worried about them.

These lawmakers need to start holding meetings in bigger venues. Hundreds of people can’t fit into some Congresscritter’s dinky local office or the town community room. This isn’t the 1800s. By not holding them in bigger venues they are exacerbating the problem.

Jeff Davidson was more than likely a Sherrod Brown plant.

I was a Buckeye in Lorain County for 32 years and S. Brown and his friends are all ‘crooks’ I'd rather have Nixon back in office. I well remember his friend Ms. Hill, former high school teacher and Mayor of North Ridgeville, OH.
Personally I feel all Professional Politicians are power hunger jerks...

Ohio needs to vote this guy OUT

I share your views about Sherrod Brown. Basically, a liar and a socialist. Apologize for being so direct, but that’t the bottom line.

Jeff Davidson, a retired accountant from Dublin.....The effing icehole lives where my best friend does.....

Hey Jeff, let me clue you into something. Do you know out of 300 million people in this great nation can you take a guess how many of them work??? Hmmmm?

ANSWER-—135 MILLION, less than 50% of the total population.

Now, let’s subtract from that number, senior citizens, kids under 18(I’ll be generous there), the filthy rich where not everyone in the family has to work(that’s OK, when you’re rich, you earned it more than likely)those that are physically, mentally or both that are LEGITIMATELY NOT ABLE TO WORK(you know, Jeff, the ones we’re SUPPOSED to help). Lets say from 165 million, we cut that number, what by 100 million.....

So we’re left with 65 million people, some of which are illegals, all of which sit on their ASSES and by law are mandated to be taken care of, BY US!!!!!

In Franklin County, for instance, roughly 29% of the residents receive some kind of benefits complete strangers provide for them. In Cuyahoga County, that number is a staggering 36% only topped by Lucas County at 38%. So like I’ve said in my different forums and threads, Ohio is the Welfare Capital of America. If you’re proud of that and justify it by telling Sherrod to raise your taxes, then you’re a stupid, uninformed idiot. And I would love to tell you that to your face......

How do more people get healthcare? Real simple, you force those people I described above, less the ones that legitimately need it to get opff their asses and into the workforce. Then eventually they start to pay taxes, get benefits and are buyers of things which leads companies to turn profits which then gives more buying power that eventually starts to lower prices on things, like HEALTHCARE for instance. And eventually, with many more taxpayers and less tax receipiants, taxes should be able to be lowered......

Who wins? EVERYBODY!!!! Who loses? Unions, Democrats and idiots who want to keep people down.......

” “I want you to raise my taxes.” Now there is a definition of moron.”

I always tell morons like that that the Treasury has a “conscience fund” for people who feel they owe the gov’t money, and that they should work as hard as they can, keep only what they need to survive, and send the rest to Uncle Sugar.

They pull that $hit then all bets are off!

Many will finally realize that the social compact is completely broken and will move to hit the reset button.

In some cases you have to be quite a detective to find out WHERE AND WHEN these Town Halls are being held. Case in point, Sherrod Brown of Ohio... while his website says he will be traveling throughout the state this month, his office REFUSES to give out his schedule of town halls...first saying for “security” reasons, then they tell me to check the website, but I pointed out that the website gives only information on PAST events, nothing about future events, then they tell me they just don’t KNOW his schedule! Right. Staff for a Senator doesn’t know his schedule!!

Check the Ohio board posts, many of us had no idea that there would be a Sherrod Brown townhall today. If someone could set up a ping list for townhalls,it would be greatly appreciated.I went to the rino Voinovich meeting in Painesville but would have gladly driven to Columbus for a real rat like Brown.
