Apparently ready to abandon the idea, President Barack Obama's health secretary said Sunday a government alternative to private health insurance is "not the essential element" of the administration's health care overhaul.
Liar, liar, pants on fire.
This is HUGH defeat for O'Bammy the Commie and his net-root nuts will go even nuttier now.
btw, does this 'Insurance cooperative option' mean we can buy Health Ins like Car insurance? -- from any company in the country? Ooooooor is everyone still held captive by their state's Insurance Regs (written by crooks on the take)?
Like the 'Blue Cross Basic Blue Plan', which is not available in all states.

But this is not the end of it. I for one do not find anything I want in HR3200.
Tort reform, defensive medicine, and NO Sweetheart deals for the insurers and pharmacutical companies must be a part of anything that passes.

It’s a head fake. They have no intention of backing off. If they have to drop it this time around they will come back and add it in later. Incrementalism.

"White House appears ready to drop 'public option'" 8 months into his term and Obama is already in panic mode about his legacy.
If he does not get a health-care bill passed he will forever be known as a failed President.

The legislation that sets up and defines the "co-ops" will have details, just like the current disaster has, I presume. It doesn't need details. Even a vague hint will suffice for the subsequent creation of a mountain of regulations to implement the will Congress purportedly evinced.
Obama and the left know this.

And these “insurance cooperatives” can come to absolute zero as zero himself.

The co-ops will be a trojan horse. Once established, the co-ops will be “converted” to the public option in the future once the opposition has quieted down. Don’t let the co-ops in. Kick them when they are down!

They have lied to us so many times before that it’s impossible to believe them now. Once passed, we will find out that it was added back in by an amendment. It could be tucked into the middle of the 1000 page bill that none of the idiots have read, and they would sign it into law, without having a clue what was in there.

We want less of that right? Would that be part of tort reform or does something else need to be done to end the practice?

How about they drop the whole idea...
Instituting a co-op system only put is place a sub-system of government intrusion that is still bad...
They will accept an incrementalism effort if it will keep them in power long enough to tire the rest of us out and get the public option back into play somewhere, somehow...

Drop it with one hand and then back hand a new version worded in a manner that leaves it open for future modifications.

"I think there will be a competitor to private insurers," she said. "That's really the essential part, is you don't turn over the whole new marketplace to private insurance companies and trust them to do the right thing. We need some choices, we need some competition." What is this "competitor to private insurers" if it isn't the Government? If this isn't Newspeak, nothing is.

Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., said co-ops might be a politically acceptable alternative Shelby is a f*****g moron. Anyone who wants to form a medical co-op is free to do so now. We don't need Government Coercion to form any d*mn co-ops.
