PHOENIX (AP) - About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Monday—the latest incidents in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president. Gun-rights advocates say they're exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and protest, while those who argue for more gun control say it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Nah, it’s not inflammatory. It’s just a conflict in cultures. Same thing happened during the Nixon presidency. As I recall, he visited Cheyenne, WY and everyone came into town for the event. Everyone had a pickup truck, and every pickup truck had a gunrack, and nearly every gunrack had at least one high powered rifle with a scope on it.

As you can imagine, it drove the Secret Service absolutely bananas. So what happened during his visit?

Absolutly nothing.

The mere presence of guns is, the mere presence of guns. It’s neither good or bad, but it is common to the culture in various areas, including Arizona.

If you don’t like guns, don’t go there. It’s a free country. You don’t HAVE to go to Arizona, or Wyoming, or Nebraska, or anywhere else for that matter. Obama can stay locked up in the White House if he’s that much of a paranoid (which apparently he isn’t. Why are you?). Don’t make rules for the rest of us though. It’s your problem.

Phoenix police said the gun-toters at Monday’s event, including the man carrying an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder, didn’t need permits.

No crimes were committed, and no one was arrested.

A slow news day for reporters of the Dan Rather type.

Another case of the AP "creating" a story where none existed.

As repeated time after time the AP is Liberal MSM.

the black panthers were the group I was thinking about.. and they look like the SEIUs and ACORNS except for different shirts. They are at the town hall meetings, not to harm obamanation, but to intimate anyone who dares speak against the obamanation. Thus, the secret service would not intervene nor care if someone in the audience was being intimadated by these thugs.

Several thoughts:

1) It’s a reminder to the liberals that the 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting. It’s about the people being more powerful than the government, and maintaining the arms to overthrow said gov’t should the need arise. In this it is a good thing.

2) It scares the bejeezus out of liberals, disproportionately to conservatives. This is also a good thing.

3) It reduces the likelihood of violence by the union thugs et al. Who’s going to start pushing and shoving when there are guys with guns hanging around? This is a good thing.

4) It destroys the public perception that people carrying guns automatically equals blood in the streets. The more people are accustomed to seeing firearms openly carried by honest men, the less effective the lies of the gun-grabbers become. This is a good thing.

I honestly don’t see a downside.

[the trouble is when government tries to disarm a citizen within his or her Rights.]

Of course, but that didn’t happen. Their rights were honored.

One day President Reagan walked out of his California ranch wearing a sidearm. The Secret Service asked him why. His reply? In case you guys need some support.

I know the Presidential Protection Detail can’t take that attitude with everyone packing at a rally but from what I’ve seen the local police normally do.

"don't think it's appropriate to carry firearms to town hall meetings and to make a show of it"

I agree with that, but, I also think that with Union goons and ACORN operatives being in there, the show of arms lets them know they are gonna be meetin' resistance when they start muscling anti-Messiah folks, too.

I find it hard to believe that there is no federal statute that makes it illegal to carry a firearm within X distance of the POTUS. If there isn’t, there should be.

I believe the Secret Service has no way of knowing WHO is carrying legally or illegally and if one person starts shooting, the S.S. could start shooting at others who openly have guns.

The Secret Service may know since they work closely with local police forces. Assuming for arguments sake they don't know, are you then claiming those who are licensed to carry a gun in Arizona should have their rights suddenly abrogated if they are within a certain distance of the Secret Service?

I agree.

A firearm is a tool made for a specific purpose, and both the tool and the purpose deserve a tremendous amount of respect. If the circumstances do not warrant carrying a weapon, leave it at home. Those who would open carry in a public place, and do so ONLY in the name of 2A rights, are displaying the same mentality as the liberal idiots who spout utter drivel and call it free excercise of their 1A rights. In other words, show the restraint that demonstrates you have an understanding of the serious business of handling a firearm.

I say this having just come from a Tactical Urbine Carbine course; I cannot imagine any of the ex-military and ex-LEO guys I train with to open-carry just for the hell of it.

This would especially be true under Alinsky’s rules, if the firearm carrier was pro Obamacare but undeclared or even declared to be. The purpose of the rifle if the person’s advocacy is for Obama secretly, is to demonstrate the “threat” against the “peaceful” socialists who want us to have no rights. This is classic, “false flag” methodology. Let the media imply he is a right winger obvious conservative, and he has done the task. Conversely, if he is pro-Obamacare and carrying a rifle (and the CNN interviewee was black) we then move over to either “hey, we’re just like you working folks who need healthcare for free” OR “we’re powerful and we can make you do this”. In any case, the open carry is legal, albeit an obnoxious use of hard fought rights by someone who would quickly lose theirs, if Obama has his way.

This looked like a set-up to me and then I read your post and sure enough it was — a pro-Obama person strutting around.

Conservatives don’t do that IMHO. If they carry, they don’t advertise the fact. That way no one knows who is carrying concealed and who is not.

More of the left trying to paint the right at nuts when all they need to do is look in the mirror. They want their rhetoric to match what is happening so they hire their own people pretending to be conservative but they get caught every time.

I don’t have a problem with right to carry but I do have a problem with Dems strutting around with guns pretending to be conservative to get in the news.

In fact, I used to use the Kelly gate that went by Kennedy HS and was so happy when they passed concealed carry in TX because the thugs quit harrassing motorists at the light because they had no idea who was carrying and who was not. Great LAW IMO!

I had the same thought: false flag. Bring an EBR to a Øbambam meet? The Secret Service must have been ‘concerned’. Truth is, if any of those packing heat so much as thumbed a safety, their life expectancy would be measured in milliseconds.

That's a pretty damned broad interpretation of the word "near".

Kinda like Harry Waxman wanting .50 cals outlawed because they can kill from more than a mile away. He even had a chart with concentric circles around the white house to show how far out a person could be and still hit the white house.

This guy is a supporter of 0bama.

Nice looking blackman with a shirt and tie. Good for him...., an armed society is a peaceful society. That said if the NBP can carry weapons in public, so can everyone else. CNN is going to go into a meltdown......hehehe

Would you have felt that way if your life was in jeopardy by the gunmen who went on a shooting rampage at Virginia Tech? The shooter obviously had no respect for life. It seems to me a civilian would be showing respect for human life if a person with legally possessed firearm killed the gunman to save your life.
