We’ve all been celebrating since early this morning.
This might last for several days.
That is the perfect comment, far and away the finest of any I have read or heard anywhere.
Wide spread dissemination of that comment would do more to cement the commitment of her supporters, attract support from the uncommitted and soften the animus of her detractors.
I can say that with some certainty because it caused me to sit up and take notice. Wow!!
Thanks Black Elk. I do believe that conservatives are classier and more disciplined than the folks you find on D.U. I hate when we act this way.
As to caring what the D.U. says or for that matter what folks like O’Reilly says, I only care in that it will be used against the site to shut it down someday. I don’t want this forum to go away, but when we act like this we give them the tools they need to do so.
Heeding the truism about keeping quiet when you can’t find a good thing to say about someone, I have refrained from any words about Kennedy.
Regarding the exhortation towards civility, as did Kristinn on another thread:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2324971/posts?q=1&;page=1#1
I skimmed a lot of the comments today on the Kennedy’s death. Many expressed sympathy, many lacked compassion and some were mean spirited, even though funny.
None were of a brutal profanity-laced invective style (with the caveat that I did not see the content deleted posts).
However, given that, here is a link to put things in perspective.
This is a single thread by a single poster on DU on the death of Ronald Reagan in 2004. It is *NOT SAFE FOR WORK* nor is it safe for your mental health. It is profanity laced. It is bitter invective.
There were many other similar threads at that time.
I post it only for 4 reasons:
1. As general reference point for the MSM who might be trolling here to see how the other half lives.
2. You will still find some few DUers in complete disagreement with sentiments of the original poster saying the bile is unwarranted.
3. Although written in 2004, it is accessible today, and like a pustule, reflects on all of DU, rightly or wrongly.
4. This link may temper our collective words to not be “like the worst of the worst”. Instead of writing what we really feel about this event, just think it and let it slide.
