He was indeed a vet.

From wikipedia:

Kennedy enlisted in the United States Army in June 1951.[9] Following basic training at Fort Dix, he requested assignment to Fort Holabird for Army Intelligence training, but was dropped after a few weeks without explanation.[9] He went to Camp Gordon for training in the Military Police Corps.[9] In June 1952, he was assigned to the honor guard at SHAPE headquarters in Paris.[4][9] His father’s political connections ensured he was not deployed to the ongoing Korean War.[4][10] While stationed in Europe he travelled extensively on weekends and climbed the Matterhorn.[11] He was discharged in March 1953 as a private first class.[9][11]

"He served one hitch and never rose above the rank of private."

The only military he really served was the enemy.

Unfortunately it’s not his service that got him into Arlington but the fact that he was a congressman.

There are specific qualifications set forth for burial at Arlington, and extreme doubt obtains in my mind that he had met those qualifications...

He does qualify, actually. Here's an excerpt from the requirements:

g. Any former member of the Armed Forces who served on active duty (other than for training) and who held any of the following positions:

1. An elective office of the U.S. Government
2. Office of the Chief Justice of the United States or of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
3. An office listed, at the time the person held the position, in 5 USC 5312 or 5313 (Levels I and II of the Executive Schedule).
4. The chief of a mission who was at any time during his/her tenure classified in Class I under the provisions of Section 411, Act of 13 August 1946, 60 Stat. 1002, as amended (22 USC 866) or as listed in State Department memorandum dated March 21, 1988.

A lot of us will be in DC in September.

Maybe the plot he’s buried in needs a bit of watering via the spittle of Patriots.

wikipedia.......only 20 or 21 months....strange length of time for an “enlistee” or draftee, esp during wartime.....wonder what this one did to have such an abbreviated time in service?

You’d think that Ted Kennedy would at least be censured for his treasonous statement issued in wartime under the auspices of his office.

I would recommend that this post be pulled. I think the comments here are what you’d expect from the liberal blogs.

WRONG.

This is TAME by any standards.

And YES, I will visit his gravesite and water the grass with my spittle for all the harm he caused the USofA while he was pompously directing others to do the same.

The man CHOSE to be a hypocrite when he could have become a Statesman.

God will grant ‘Teddy’ the peace he deserves ( whatever that is)

Ted has been going through almost routine seisures and chem during this last year ( why in hell do you think he has been at home and in Cape Cod?) You do no specify the type of cancer your Dad passed from, Some are mire agressive than others. I point out only that there was recently a family gathering for folks in the clan to say their good byes.

Perhaps your own missing of your father is what generates your view point. Since grief is a dynamic emotion I am pretty sire that the family of Ted has been dealing with this for some time. My gripe is the lionization that is ongoing and pathetic. A tormented man???? The man murdered a woman, he cheated routinely on his first wife, had his marriage annuled so he could marry in the church again, routinely voted AGAINST things like the Hyde amendment, tried to destroy my country, and was a lousy two bit drunk living off his boot leggin daddy’s money. Other than that he was a swell guy

From what I understand, it takes more than a tour to qualify.

He was a US Senator and as such entitled to burial in Arlington. There is no board set up to determine who is buried in Arlington. Leave that kind of thinking to Obama and his minions.

A US Senator is qualified. Let him be buried with his brothers. Can we be more decent than our adversaries?
