This family does not live in a dump. Those poor Duggar kids have to trudge around in this:

On ‘paper’ they appear awesome. On the TV show...well...those girls (in particular) lead a pretty hard life (sooo very much of household chores are the RESPONSIBILITY of the kids...not a chore...their ‘job.’) The camera catches all...and some of the episodes show (again the girls) marvelling at their new front loaders at their new house and how wonderful and more effiencient their laundry chores will...and the girl was like 12 or 13. Sorry...learning to be responsible and helping with assigned chores is different than having a younger sibling assigned to you; along with ten loads of laundry or cooking for 20 DAILY.

I only had 4, and they learned to do their own laundry at about 8. All of them learned to cook before they left home -- including the boys, especially the boys. Mine all had jobs in high school and college. They all are grown and have families of their own.

I admire the Duggar family and enjoy their "shows" on TV. I couldn't do it. I think they lived in a rather small house until just recently. And Michelle shops at thrift stores. They are self supporting and own rental property from which they derive much of their income. Michelle also home schools them. We need more Duggars in this country. Anyone criticising them is emotionally stunted themselves.

I formed my opinion by watching the show THEY have editorial control over (TLC admits this).

Yes there are lazy, spoilt American kids; obviously the Duggars are not...BUT...there is a line between being a responsible kid, doing ‘chores’ and a mini-mom at 12. Given a younger child (assigned to you!!!); and monunmental amounts of household chores. Childhood only happens once, and as much as I question the ‘assigning’ of a younger child to an older one, I question the amount of time a mom can devote to rearing the children (and not delegating that ‘chore’ yet again).

If I hadn’t watched the show THEY produce, I would be as ‘rah-rah’ as everyone else here. But even with heavy editing and final ‘cut’ provisions, there was such a ‘disconnect’ between Michelle (ever hear or see her on TV...oddly spacey, with a sing songy verbal pattern) and all the kids, and their workman like chores, that it really raised alot of flags for me.

Teens are supposed to have fun???????? Is that in the Constitution? Has it ever been that way until the last 50 years or so? I think until birth control became the norm that teens who had FUN ended up parents kind of “early.” LOL Hopefully, the Duggar children see their siblings as something more than “their PARENTS children.”

They are getting close to a football team, offense and defense. The grandkids can be special teams.

he would make all the big important decisions in our marriage and I would make the small everyday decisions...

You reminded me of the fellow who said the secret to a happy marriage was just that: he makes the big decisions and she makes the small ones. She decides where they live, what kind of house and car they buy, how many kids, etc. He decides their policy on the UN, Supreme Court nominations, escalating the war in Afghanistan, Obamacare, etc.

LOL...’anyone criticizing them is emotionally stunted themselves.’ Okay...kinda like libs saying ‘don’t criticize the Messiah.’

Look, on paper they are wonderful; but I have watched their TV show (that they profit from...which is great for their family coffers...) but don’t put yourself, your lifestyle on initmate display (with multiple camera crews in tow) and NOT expect any criticism.

THEY alerted the media about pregnancy 19...they are not being ‘put upon’ by the publicity...they seek it.

The only issue I have with the Duggars is how incompetent those of us with less children are. As someone above wrote, they need to write a home and time management book for the rest of us.

Well I think that there is a limit to how much a teenager should watch their PARENTS children

Oh, it's better that they should be running around in the streets engaging in mischief, or worse, while both parents work to afford the latest gadgets? Chores never hurt a teenager. And they shouldn't be paid for them either. Chores are part of living in a functioning family.

Too many of today's parents are slaves to their children's schedules -- drive them to French lessons, piano lessons, Little League, horseback riding, etc. The Duggars have found a beter way and a pray for a safe delivery and a healthy baby for the Mom.

I know that you have already said you are wrong. I'm just reinforcing the reasons that you are wrong. :)

These people aren’t sick. As long as they are paying their own bills, they are wonderful. Those children, unless I miss my guess, will be a blessing to their parents and an asset to society in general.
