White flees ‘SA oppression’
The Times ^ | 1 Sept 2009 | Lauren Cohen

A WHITE South African man has been granted refugee status in Canada after an immigration board ruled that his “fear of persecution by African South Africans” was justified.

Brandon Huntley, 31, who grew up in Mowbray, Cape Town, made his refugee claim in April last year.

On Thursday, in Ottawa, Ontario, the only member of the immigration board to hear Huntley’s application, William Davis, ruled that Huntley would “stick out like a sore thumb due to his colour in any part of the country”.

Davis added that the unemployed irrigation sprinkler salesman had given “clear and convincing” proof of the state’s “inability or unwillingness to protect him”.

Huntley’s lawyer, Russell Kaplan, said that he is a human-rights lawyer who emigrated to Canada 20 years ago to escape the apartheid government’s discrimination against black South Africans.

Kaplan told The Times that Huntley had been attacked seven times in South Africa by black people who called him a “settler” and a “white dog”.

Kaplan’s sister, Lara, who emigrated to Canada last year, testified about the torture and murder of her other brother, Robert, by robbers in South Africa in 1997. Both Lara and Huntley gave evidence in camera in a full-day hearing on August 18.

Between 30 and 40 newspaper clippings were presented as evidence of life in South Africa.

“One article exhibited was published in [the Daily Sun in 2004] by Africa Ka Mahamba. [It was] entitled ‘Taking from whites is not a crime’,” Kaplan said.

The article quotes the leader of the “Uhuru cultural club” as telling youngsters who attended a Human Rights Day celebration to steal from whites because “it is the right thing to do”.

“The judgment was a direct criticism of the South African government,” Kaplan said.

He said that affirmative action and black economic empowerment were two of the aspects that were taken into account in considering Huntley’s application for refugee status in Canada. “These legislated policies, even though there is an explanation for them, are discriminatory. ”

Huntley first went to Canada on a six-month work permit in 2004, working as a carnival attendant. He returned in 2005, staying on illegally.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said it would have been “preferable, before such a decision was made, that the South African government’s view was sought. “Quite clearly, the allegations are as preposterous as they are laughable — which they would be if they were not serious,” he said.

If Ronnie Mamoepa thinks the allegations are so ludicrous, he obviously has no idea what the conditions are like in South Africa for the last couple of decades.

There’s a saying among a large number of ANC members, “One Boer - One Bullet”.

South Africa, from what I’ve read, has turned into a crime-filled cesspool - especially in the urban areas of Johannesburg and Cape Town.

I’ve a customer in the very south part and he says the light skinned blacks will not allow the northern ones to come down and ruin their economy. They shoot them on site.

Africa is a growing disaster. Aids is rampant. Starvation is a problem. Violence is growing everywhere. What a mess.

All whites should find new homes. They are not wanted. They should take all of their money, skill, and expertise and make another country prosperous. Africa is a lost cause.

I love South Africa. I love the land and I love the people. It's paradise on earth.

But to be safe there, you have to live like a rat in a cage. Bars on the windows. Security gates on the doors. Burglar alarms connected to armed response service. Gated communities with armed security to prevent carjackings on residential streets. And none of this is 100% effective.

Police response time to crimes in progress is abysmal, and would be laughable were it not so sad. They might show in half an hour or forty five minutes. Armed robbers even come into restaurants, make everyone lie down on the floor, and rob them all. Happened at two restaurants I frequented, although not while I was present.

A South African girl born today has a better chance of being raped than of learning to read.

The laws are not on the side of the victim. If a robber breaks into your house and you shoot him, you still must prove self defense in court (meaning proving that your life was in danger) or else you can be charged with murder, for killing a robber/rapist/whatever in your own home.

It's not impossible to legally obtain a gun, but it's very, very difficult. Illegal guns, however, are cheap and plentiful. In Durban I can get a .45 pistol on the street for $100 US, no sweat.

Even in wealthy neighborhoods, there is rampant crime, home break-ins, robberies, random murders. There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood. Except where the politicians live under heavily armed guard.

But I still want to go back. I even have thoughts of living there for longer than I did before. Call me crazy.

Sounds a little like Mexico. The wife of a guy I grew up with works for the president of Mexico in some capacity, she has a bodyguard, one for her son and one for her husband when he visits. His son is with him now in the states and doesn’t want to go back because it frightens him and he’s only 5.

It’s like you described Chicago. I worked for a SAn back in Vancouver and she pretty much described Johannesburg. Just like America, it’s the white liberals who are surrendering their rights to the criminals out of politial correctness. She loves Mandela but what they suspected after he was elected came true and not one white said it, that deep down he was an Obama..hates whitey.

You've just described Oakland, California.
