Unfortunately, that isn't truly the case in the Peoples Republic of Maryland. This young man was lucky in that he used a sword, rather than a gun. People in this state who have used guns, under the same circumstances, have been successfully prosecuted, their lives permanently ruined...

We have so many knives around this place you have to watch where you sit down, then there's the base complement required of any Eastern kitchen ~ well, Japanese kitchen ~ about 20 pretty good sized chopping knives ~ very similar to the short blade carried by the Samurai known as wakizashi 脇差 or わきざし

We keep several on hand in storage just in case we need a new one to cut California rolls to size~

We always make the cutlery sales looking for future replacements.

It is so easy to ruin the appearance of the blades by sharpening them too many times, so what you need is to keep factory fresh items on hand for instant use.

Few years back we helped an elderly Japanese-American lady reduce the load to a manageable number ~ 15 or so ~ and stashed several hundred in a large box in the garage. Most people aren't even aware of how many knives they have piled up.
