California to Ban the Sale of Electronic Cigarettes
9/17/09 | Vanity

The bill in California, SB400, Has Passed - The right to Vape (inhale from a non-combustible e-cig) is slipping away. California has passed a bill (although not yet signed into law) that will ban the sale of Electronic Cigarette in California.

What began as a bill to "prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors", morphed into a bill that prohibits the sale of electronic cigarettes to anyone until or unless the FDA approves them. And the legislature passed SB400 while we were focused on the 9/11 commemorations.

The vote was AYES

California lawmakers are so addicted to the tax dollars generated by cigarette taxes that they are willing to throw untaxed e-cig users under a bus -- even though e-cigs have virtually the same ingredients as all the nicotine replacement products now freely sold over the counter. The difference is that this delivery system really works in getting people to quit smoking cigarettes, and it doesn't have the ingredients that kill you -- but Big Pharma doesn't own the rights.

This bill also defers a State issue to the power of the Federal Government.

The bill isn't law until Governor Schwarzenegger signs it. Please call or write his office at:

Tell Schwarzenegger that you oppose SB400, the ban on the sale of e-cigarettes; please don't sign the bill; and don't defer the decision on e-cigs to the Feds!

Thousands who have quit smoking cigarettes using e-cigs, will thank you -- and so will anyone who believe that issues like this shouldn't be made by the Feds!

I can see it now, illegal black market of electronic cigarettes...and cops stopping people to see if their cigs are real or battery powered.

The Phony Tobacco War

excerpt...

Nicotine is the only reason a tobacco consumer consumes tobacco. Aside from the comforting rituals of buying, unwrapping, prepping, fondling, lighting and gesturing with one’s chosen tobacco product, the ultimate purpose of tobacco consumption is the delivery of nicotine to the receptors on specialized brain cells inside the tobacco consumer’s skull. It’s not a big sin; the consumption of nicotine by itself is rather harmless. By itself, nicotine is no more harmful than the caffeine we offer children with every can of Coke or Mountain Dew; it does no harm to the God-given temple of our bodies. It’s all the other useless crap in the smoke that causes asthma attacks and heart disease and makes people cough up those gigantic yellow loogies. So you’d think that anyone who invented an smokeless, odor-free, way to provide nicotine junkies with a quick fix without endangering anyone’s health would be instantly hailed as a genius, a benefactor of mankind and an all-round good Joe. Well, if you think that, then you don’t understand politicians.

You know --there was a time when I would have laughed at that as way too kooky for real life.

But not anymore! (Scroll down a few inches on the website)

God save us from the Nanny Statists. They’re going to “protect” us to death. For our own good, of course.

Do they really work to stop smoking?

I can sort of believe it. I used a pipe to tapper off my smoking habit over a two year period of time. By the time I made my final assault using Chantix, I was only barely smoking.

“Do they really work to stop smoking?”

After over thirty years of smoking I have not had a real cig since May. I learned about vaping from a post on FR and after they raised taxes I decided I would not pay them. I ordered more then enough equipment and liquid to last for 8-9 months. It works and I am tapering off the nicotine level in the juice to almost zero.

California can’t lose any more cigarette tax money, heck, they just raised the state tax - they are looking to keep the smoker base stable (and probably would LOVE a bump in revenue - more smokers)

Vapers are sin-tax cheats./huge sarc but true to the gov’t...

If they help one to stop smoking and it appears that they do then no, for many struggling smokers, there is no more pressing issue.
