MANCHESTER, Ky. When Bill Sparkman told retired trooper Gilbert Acciardo that he was going door-to-door collecting census data in rural Kentucky, the former cop drawing on years of experience warned: "Be careful."
The 51-year-old Sparkman was found hanged from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery and had the word "fed" scrawled on his chest, a law enforcement official said Wednesday, and the FBI is investigating whether he was a victim of anti-government sentiment.
"Even though he was with the Census Bureau, sometimes people can view someone with any government agency as 'the government.' I just was afraid that he might meet the wrong character along the way up there," said Acciardo, who directs an after-school program at an elementary school where Sparkman was a frequent substitute teacher.
The Census Bureau has suspended door-to-door interviews in rural Clay County, where the body was found, until the investigation is complete, an official said . .

I say discern the times we live in. Another article in the news this morning is that ammunition manufacturers are having trouble keeping up with the civilian demand for ammo.
I suspect Pelosi. She said this would happen.
> My first guess is that it was a suicide, and the guy wanted to make sure his family got the insurance money. Most Life Insurance does not pay suicide claims.
Sounds plausible. In 1988, a friend of mine at work told me that IF he were to ever commit suicide, he’d go to his garage, close the garage door, open the hood of his car, spread tools everywhere and then turn on the engine and die. He said that this way, people would just think that he was a careless idiot but his family would get the insurance.
Two weeks later he was found dead in exactly this manner.
This happened around a week ago and we’re just now hearing about it?
Many of these hollows are occupied by large extended families that are strongly anti-government, armed to the teeth, and know the land like the back of their hand.
I know I sure wouldn't want to be some census worker from the city who wanders into one of these places, knocks at door and demands to know how many toilets the residence has...
I think most Americans want to be left alone especially today.
If we were left-wing nuts, we would have immediately tied this to ACORN being removed from the Census work.
“It’s obvious that ACORN and their violent followers are upset about the Census move, and are sending a message — restore us or else. Much like union thugs beat up scabs, ACORN could well be going after the census workers to scare them off so the Census has no choice but to re-hire ACORN.”
interesting story..God Bless you and your son, armymarine mom, you must be very proud.
I take it Sparkman was white, otherwise this would be a breaking news/noose hate crime.
And so it begins?
“Im guessing that this guy stumbled into somebodys meth lab or something.”
EXACTLY!
Only in the mind of a leftie whacko would their first thought be “a tea party mobster! oh my!”
Feds probe US Census worker hanging in Kentucky with pointy sticks
...but not that sorry.
If it’s not a total set up (Reichstag fire) to discredit the opposition to Obama, then it will be spun into discrediting the opposition to Obama. He may have stumbled into a marijuana harvest but even if he did, it will be spun as done by teabaggers.
And it could be a complete Reichstag fire deal, but if it is, we’ll never know. And if it was just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, it will still be spun against middle-American opponents of the Messiah.
All life insurance pays suicide after 2 yrs.
Pray for America
Our men’s group from church went to Wheelwright KY last year and the folks in the house we were working on said the kids had only two things to do. Cock fighting or meth.
“Im guessing that this guy stumbled into somebodys meth lab or something.”
That’s more than probable but whatever it was, he stumbled into a whole lot of evil.
True but in a way most Appalachians were the first true libertarians. They were the very people used to sell giving the poor food stamps yet they didn't use them because of the intrusion. They have always believed that the Feds had no business in business no matter what your business.
Thank you.
Well we know it wasn’t a still he stumbled onto because the word revenuer would have been on his chest instead of “Fed”, or perhaps they simply can’t spell? The fact that not one FReeper in any of the articles I’ve seen on this mentions that he may have stumbled onto a still is amazing, it is always MJ he might have stumbled on. I vote for a still which probably still outnumber the pot farms in the area. If they add more taxes to booze look for that number to increase.
