WARSAW — The United States aims to establish missile bases in Poland, after having scrapped plans fiercely opposed by Russia to deploy a missile shield in the country, a Polish newspaper reported Friday.

Citing Polish diplomatic sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, Gazeta Wyborcza said Washington aimed to set up a permanent short- and medium-range missile base as well as deploy mobile missile batteries.

The plan is set to take shape within days, said Gazeta Wyborcza, a leading daily that is considered well informed on the issue.

It said Andrzej Kremer, Poland's deputy foreign minister, was due to travel to Washington on Monday.

What a minute, I heard Obama state a few days ago at the U.N. that there would be no missile deployment in Poland?

Of course, Obama will only do this on condition that the missiles either point toward Tel Aviv, or toward western Europe.

Some very interesting history at wiki about Poland and their response to the Nazis in WWII.

"If we leave anywhere in the world; power will fill the vacuum that we leave.

I was just gonna say. We leave Afghan and Taliban returns to plan 9/11 Part Two. No doubt about it. And I see a lot of freepers calling for it.

WTF does this mean?

Could be another lie from the Obama Administration.

The only thing he's been consistent with is lying about things.

[Is this merely a delaying tactic?]

They replace the Bush Administration's yet-to-be-deployed bargaining chip with an Obama yet-to-be-developed bargaining chip. The Soviets—and now the Putin regime—are opposed to anti-missile systems because they have been unable to compete in that technological arena. The Russians were also worried about the radar component of the Bush shield because they claimed it could look hundreds of miles into their airspace from Czechoslovakia.

Which bargaining chip would truly be better for Poland and the Czech Republic?

As the construction schedule for this latest proposal unfolds ground will be broken and a U.S. base or bases will be built in Poland and maybe Czechoslovakia. If the Russians suddenly side with Obama on Iran the installations might still be completed—minus the missiles—and used for some other U.S. military purpose. The Poles and Czechs are mainly interested in a permanent U.S. military presence in their countries to help counter Russian aggression.

“The Poles and Czechs are mainly interested in a permanent U.S. military presence in their countries to help counter Russian aggression.”

That’s what I thought. As for Russia, Putin can outmaneuver Obama any day of the week. Obama is FAR too inexperienced. And all of Obama’s foreign policy seems to be based on his silly notions of the new *post-allied* United States...in a world where all nations (no matter how awful) are treated equally by us. He takes egalitarianism (if such a word exists) to the extreme....at our peril.

I dont believe its hope at all if we have an established missile base there it is very likely that we could shift it easily to missile defense. I believe you don’t always have to hit a problem head on to solve it. Why take the path of most resistance, that was a stupid part of the Bush policy.

Nothing Obama has been doing makes much since foreign policy wise. When I see something that the military can
use to our advantage like adding a missile base where there was going to be a missile shield base, it looks like slight of hand to me.

I think the only reason Obama is deploying the SM-3 system is because the Joint Chiefs started making mutinous noises when Obama canceled the original agreement. Obama has no enthusiasm for the military or its strategic role. He would be happy if a big earthquake killed every living thing in Afghanistan so he wouldn't have to make a decision. Obama’s attitude was summed up by Sheryl Crow in 2004 when she said: “War?—Yuck!”

I agree with your analysis. I suppose that’s why Obama is heading out of the country again to promote Chicago to the Olympic Committee instead of promoting our national security.

He NEEDS to be talking with our generals. I am totally disgusted with his foolishness.
