The US military does and they all but order you to take it if you deploy anywhere, really if you are on active duty. It is actually a very good deal and certainly a small but significant benefit to being either active or reserve. Having said that, I’ll leave it to your UK military experts to say what is available to them.

Sgt Till wasn't an US servicemember, but an Australian servicemember, so I would be surprised if he did have SGLI...

god bless the military but sometimes they and some of their supporters sound like card-carrying socialists, wanting the government to do everything for ever for them.
