I Come Not To Praise Glenn Beck, But To Bury Him (Why he hurts the right more than he helps)

I tried to do my best to address the topic fairly, and I regret that so complex a topic took me almost 1,800 words.

It might help if this jerk ever got to the point. I read the whole thing, and I'm afraid I don't understand a thing he said, except that he apparently doesn't like jokes.

... to Van Jones, the NEA scandal, and ACORN, none of these were the genuine work of Glenn Beck. He did no heavy lifting on any of those stories other than ginning up noise around them on his show ...

And he never CLAIMED to have done the *genuine work*, as a matter of fact, any time someone attempted to credit or thank him, Glenn immediately attributed his sources. He had Andrew Breitbart on both the radio and TV show to explain the damning Van Jones video, he had Andrew on with Judge Napalitano after showing us the first ACORN video to tell us how he had called Judge Tony to invite him for dinner with Andrew only to surprise him by asking him to view the footage with those two and render his judicial opinion. He has stated over and over that it was Breitbart and Big Hollywood who broke the NEA corruption, he's had the guy who recorded the phone conversation on his TV show twice, at least.

Glenn Beck takes no credit for these things, even when others involved, the 9/12'ers most especially, try to give it to him. There is a virulent anti-Beck agenda moving, unfortunately, fact stands in their way.

...all the facts were out there for anyone of a mind to find them out.

Yes, the ACORN footage, the damning Van Jones video, the audio recording of the White House complicit in the solicitation of artists to create propaganda, this was all over the place, why, one could hardly enjoy a football game, the networks and cable news channels were running it 24/7, every American was fully informed ... what in the world was Glenn doing wasting his airtime on this *old news*?? [/s]

Yeah, I had just started watching him when he began with the “excrement” lines (I don't remember the exact words). That was enough for me. No matter how intelligent he might be (and I don't know because that was the first and last time I watched him), I can't listen to that and don't consider it necessary. I know from reading here at FR that he does an important job in getting stories such as the ACORN one before the broader viewing public, and bless him for that. But I can't listen to his terminology.

the only people who can’t see Obama is a racist are the effete elites of the beltway who think it would be ok to be a modern national democrat or that socialism is ok.

I agree.

Reihl and Levin are just doing Hannity’s fighting for him....

Hannity is scared to death of Beck, and FOX, fans, etc won’t stand for him to attack Beck- so he sends these two out to do it for him...

it is pathetic. I have lost ALL respect for Levin.

This country is in a fierce battle for liberty, and these two goons have nothing better to do than attack the one man fearless enough to take on the issues no one else ever has.

I am sick of the infighting among talk show hosts, Tea Party movements, Grassroots movements. This country is bigger than your damn egos- get on board to stop the corruption and destruction of liberty- or get the HELL OUT OF THE WAY!

Where did you see anything remotely similar to that sentiment in this article?

The author specifies that this is not about Mark Levin, and there is no quote from Levin here.

The rift between the two is, IMO, a leftist attempt to divide us.

Mark and Glenn are both on OUR side. They both have flaws and they're both fighting for America.

DON'T play into this leftist game. If enough people play Donner Party again, we're going to LOSE our country.

Seems the author is condemning Beck for failing as a leader (which he isn’t) and failing to want to lead (he doesn’t).

The guy doesn’t get it:
- Beck is just putting the pieces together in an understandable form
- Conservatives are an aggragete of freedom-minded individuals; we have and want no leader.

Leaving the debates about speaking style and theatrics aside, it seems Beck got
a little too close to the truth and some unpleasant secrets. So the order has gone
out to silence him.

"Most of us believe socialism is what the socialists want us to believe it is
- a share-the-wealth program. That is the theory. But is that how it works?...
If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth program, but is in
reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox
of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead it
becomes the logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs.
Communism, or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the
downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite."

In spirit I agree with the author. We should never raise any man too high, be it Beck, Limbaugh, Reagan, you name it. I am always watching regarding all of them. I know the “deceiver” is not called the “deceiver” for nothing.

And he IS right about Beck’s involvement being more to increase the size of his mouthpiece and, it naturally follows, the income produced by the show. That is only human though.

One of my biggest concerns about Beck is that he is Mormon. It means he comes from a completely different spiritual perspective than I do. It is as if he is Hindu, Buddhist or atheist. That always causes me to look doubly closely.

A question: If Beck was doing EXACTLY what he is doing now, in every way, but there was one single difference - hi is Muslim - would it impact how people interpret what he does?

We must always be cautions in trusting other human beings, be they popes, presidents or bus drivers. The only man that every lived that can be trusted explicitly and implicitly was hung on a cross and raised three days later.

I hope he reins in any tendency to appear “balanced”, what we DON'T need on the Right is to be saddled with another Bill O’Reilly. Why can't spokesmen on the Right just be unapologetically for the Right, the Left certainly doesn't play devil's advocate for us.

In this case Levin comes off as the Michelle Obama to Beck’s Carla Bruni.

Does Levin have feet as big as Michelle's?? ;)

Just another idiot trying to get publicity for himself off of Beck's coattails. What makes these morons think that anyone cares anything about what they think?

The great thing about Beck is that he is an equal opportunity offender. He hurts the left, the right, the GOP, the Rats, etc., and he could care less.

Beck is standing up an asking, “Is Communism acceptable in America?” I don’t know if some people even on our side want to answer that question.

No, this guy is wrong. I like both Levin and Beck. Bottom line is that Beck is doing serious damage, and they are attacking to try to stop or slow the damage. Levin has a very powerful message and powerful book, but they are ignoring it hoping it is contained to existing conservatives and few others. They ignored Beck when he was only on the radio and HLN, but once he moved to Fox, got huge ratings and started very effectively to pick apart the Obama Myth, they started attacking. First, they just casually started throwing his name in the same sentence as Rush and Hannity. Then after his started his indepth documentation of the czars and ACORN a few weeks ago, they pulled out the heavy guns they typically reserve for Limbaugh. Limbaugh has been highly effective for 20+ years. We saw the rise of the House GOP in the 90s and a GOP majority in this decade, in no small part due to Limbaugh’s influence and critical eye on the media.

Today, Beck is literally picking apart this administration, and doing it to big cable ratings. He can’t be ignored at this stage.
