Woman refuses 'Sweden's smallest benefit payment'

A pensioner from western Sweden may have received the smallest benefit payment ever paid out by the country’s social insurance agency (Försäkringskassan).

Ängelholm resident Gunnel Johansson receives a whopping 50 öre (7 cents) every month in support payments for low-income seniors (äldreförsörjningsstöd), the Helsingborgs Dagblad (HD) newspaper reports.

According to a description on the agency’s website, the payments are meant to guarantee the elderly “a reasonable standard of living even if you have a low pension or no pension at all”.

The payment is so small that Försäkringskassan has taken the unusual step of paying Johansson every other month.

She finds the whole matter a bit embarrassing, not to mention degrading.

“It feels like I’m worth 50 öre,” she told the newspaper.

“And what must it cost to administer the payments?”

If she had her way, Johansson would stop receiving the nearly worthless payouts, but the social insurance agency has been adamant about continuing to provide the benefit – no matter how small.

“Rules are rules. There shouldn’t be a lowest-level for maintenance support for the elderly, so even if it’s only one krona, the payment is paid,” said the agency’s Richard Wirenius to HD.

He promised, however, to see what he could do to stop the payments because formally speaking, the agency can’t force people to accept money they don’t want.

By the way, Ängelholm is home of Koenigsegg, the performance car company that (along with a diverse group of investors) probably will take over SAAB.

This woman now knows what it’s like to endorse all those 10 and 15 cent royalty checks for the Super Terrific Happy Hour.

(Försäkringskassan)

Consider that word STOLEN.

Must be Swedish for "Socialist Insecurity" or "Forsaken Elderly": avoid the line -- donate your organs NOW!

Cheers!

My intention here isn’t that of boasting the image of a certain car maker.

But I do, honestly, wish to say these bureaucrat fools owe at least a 10th of their inflated monthly paycheck to those who rebuilt Western Civilization after WWII.

That generation is worth so much more than 7 cents.

My grandmother is 91.

Her brother fought the Red Army. He was shot, but survived.

That does not make me a hero. But her generation is.

She digs this car (Koenigsegg - Yes there is future after Stalin and Hitler):

That was wildly entertaining! Thanks for bumping me.

Nothing -- nothing -- sounds and feels like a V-8.

“Nothing — nothing — sounds and feels like a V-8.”

- I presently drive a 5 cylinder car.

I read magazines and books about V8’s.

Admittedly, something is wrong about my lifestyle.

I love my Volvo, but I’m saving up for a REAL car.

By that I don’t mean Korean vehicles equipped with “compact” V8 engines; I’m talking cars designed for real V8s and V8s designed for real cars.

Have we forgotten upon the true spirit of rock’n’roll here in Western Civilization?

A V-8 sounds good because it is good -- the powerplant of so much productivity and enjoyment.

Like the phonograph record, they bewail what they have improved to death.

You got that right. A V-8 is the best.

Obviously not the home of common sense, though...

Maybe the woman can trade the check for a few coupons at Atomic Sub. Once she gets 24 she can become a captain!
