Yahoo! Writer tries to Defend SNL parody of Obama. Unbelievable!

This weekend "Saturday Night Live" opened with Fred Armisen as President Obama, delivering an address from the Oval Office. Noting up front that he'd failed to secure the 2016 Olympic Games for Chicago, Armisen's Obama said it was just further proof that his detractors' fears are unfounded: How could he transform the country into something resembling the former Soviet Union or Nazi Germany when he's failed to accomplish anything at all? "When you look at my record," he said, "it's very clear what I've done so far, and that is nothing."

But are SNL's accusations of Obama being a do-nothing president accurate? Let's run down the list of the nine promises SNL lampooned President Obama for doing "nothing" on to see where he actually stands.

1. Close the American military prison at Guantanamo Bay: In one of his first acts as president...

He didn't do the Obama impersonation anyway near the way he did it last year.

That was my first thought: no work on the voice or stutterings, etc. Very weak.

Tells me that fear plays a part and that's not a healthy sign in a free society. I wonder if he can do Hugo Chavez? Or if he'd be willing to do it in Venezuela?

I noticed the writer stopped at #9 and made no mention of Obama’s failure to secure the 2016 Olympics.

It was Armisen impersonating Armisen. His Obama was dead-on accurtate when they were mocking the stupid Presidential debates.

Was that label, “mis-leading comment” part of the show? Was it just a coincidence that the picture went black and came back without sound? I really don’t know what to think. It’s way too conspiracy theory for me.

Sorry...should not have said that. There is always a chance of something obtuse...but I doubt that it occurred here. Probably just a technical problem (I would hope).

Of course with all of the strange things happening today, you never know...

I guess a year from now he'll say... "...and Obama is merely nineteen months into his term as president..."

By nineteen months, Obama will have an 'entertainment czar' and there will be no 'Obama comedy' allowed. Bush and all Republicans, will however, remain safe targets.

Of course, in nineteen months; we can only hope that we can still manage a smile; much less, find anything to laugh about. (Meantime; during this brief downtime; where SNL would even consider a slight criticism; why not get Obama's shorts in a knot; and those of his fans as well. How about a skit showing that it was not Bush's fault; but rather the size of Obama's ears that turned off the 'good will' and the Olympic 'gold').

It would’ve been funnier it they use a telemprompter and mechancial voice box to “read” the speech.

The skit WAS lame. It was dull. It tried to reinforce lefty tropes.

Attacking the President from a left-wing viewpoint is better than nothing I guess, but it was sad TV.

I don’t think Obama is a competent socialist, but there is no doubt about his goals and objectives. Philosophically, the Community-Organizer-in-Chief is somewhere between a national socialist and a soviet socialist. I thank God every day that the evil thug ACORN and the dead elected is not as capable as his redistributive supporters dreamed.

Too bad Armisen didn’t acutally imitate Obama’s voice an mannersims. He seemed to be avoiding them. It would have made the skit even better.

He’s bad, but if you think he’s the worst ever, you haven’t been watching long enough.

it doesn’t need to be defended...it’s called comedy.....but in this case, it was mostly true....

[It was dull. It tried to reinforce lefty tropes.]

That is what I got out of it after seeing in on YouTube.

But my wife and I both said the same thing - they highlighted the regurgitated crap that Libs want to see, but they didn’t emphasis the crap that he did accomplish ($800 billion debt for my unborn grand-children, nationalizing 2/3 of the American automobile manufacturers, polarizing the race debate over a beer, etc...)!

And then the part that jumped out at me was the total lack of effort on the actor’s part. It would be someone playing charades by saying, “Yeah, you see; you see?” in their own voice, and expecting everyone to know who he was mimicking! Even if they do know, it detracts from the fun of the game and REALLY softens the punch at the person to which they are referring! This was, “See, we are poking fun; kind of.”

When Fay was trying to excoriate Palin, she did everything she could to sound and mimic her every move; to the point that even “journalists” are saying the Palin said, “I can see Russia from my house.”

Agree that Totus should always be included in any paraody of Obama making a speech; or even making a decision, for that matter. (Wonder if Totus plays basketball. . .)

Think Totus' feelings must be hurt, as it seems that little attention has been paid to Obama's teleprompter as of late.

Did Totus go to Copenhagen? Sad; don't recall it even being mentioned/sigh. Perhaps I just missed this being noted by MSM.

first off, they did parody bush that way and worse on snl and every other place, who are you kidding?

Secondly, we only WISH Obama had done nothing. he’s gonna run this country into the ground. His health plan is a joke, why do you think people came here for years from the other countries with socialized medicine for things like cancer treatment? Because they did not treat it in their country other than maybe pain meds to make the patient more comfortable and urging them to commit doctor assisted suicide. Once obama care comes in, you better pray you never get anything worse than a common cold, because if you do you will not receive care. Why? Your doctor will be penalized financially if he even so much as sends you for advanced testing that will show what is wrong with you. And it will be illegal to have any other insurance that might provide you better care. But you can bet rich cats like Obama won’t be on the same care plan as you. Whatever care they need will be provided either under some extra special care plan for special people like past presidents and members of congress (I’m sure there will be one for them), or if they’ve not managed to weasel in on a plan like that, they can afford to pay for needed care out of pocket. It will be us poor working schmoes that do without MRI or other needed tests and advanced treatments. Just like every other socialized medicine country.
