Breaking-Sen Burr will vote YES on cloture re S. 1776! Call him, 202-224-3154, to vote NO!

Posted on 10/21/2009 8:30:00 AM PDT by disraeligears

Just called Burr's office; Sen. Burr intends to vote YES cloture re S. 1776. The bill's passage will help hide the total cost for Obamacare. Yesterday his office stated that would be voting against cloture. This is a big turnaround. Call Sen. Richard Burr (NC) at 202-224-3154 and tell him to vote NO on cloture.

Both of these senators deeply oppose this bill

Maybe that is just their position when addressing their voters.

I contacted Bob Bennett's office. A staffer reports he is against cloture and further claimed it is an erroneous rumor that was reported on a Wisconsin radio station but later was corrected. Please spread the word.

Burr's office has not taken a position on cloture. I was sent to Kyl's voice mail. I will try his office again a little later.

Keep calling Burr’s office! I just got off the phone with a staffer and NOW they are stating that there was a miscommunication within the office and that Sen. Burr has not yet reached a formal decision as to whether or not he is voting for or against cloture re 1776.

The staffer tried to assert that 1776 and the Baucus bill were separate but I politely disabused her of that notion and explained that the Baucus bill achieves alleged budged neutrality by not counting the cost which is involved in S. 1776.

I told her that if S. 1776 passes (and its 200+ billion dollar cost) separately, that will help pass Obamacare by giving the Dems the fraudulent talking point that that Obamacare is budget neutral when it is so clearly not.

Keep calling!!! The calls to Sen. Burr’s office appear to be having an effect.

And how could Burr possibly be forced into helping this crop of Democrats gain more power?

Cloture

The new version of the cloture rule, which has remained in place since 1975, makes it considerably easier for the Senate majority to invoke cloture. This has considerably strengthened the power of the majority, and allowed it to pass many bills that would otherwise have been filibustered. (The Democratic Party had held a two-thirds majority in the 89th Congress of 1965, but regional divisions among Democrats meant that many filibusters were invoked by Southern Democrats against civil rights bills supported by the Northern wing of the party.) Some senators wanted to reduce it to a simple majority (51 out of 100) but this was rejected, as it would greatly diminish the ability of the minority to check the majority.

Be careful — some of the posters who are posting comments from his office have not been here that long. He hasn’t released a statement yet and no way his staffers would be giving out that information.

Red State has been wrong a lot as well. Until you hear Burr or his Chief of Staff say he is voting for cloture and why, don’t believe what you hear.

I am not defending Burr even a little — don’t know that much about him but we have been getting a lot of bad info on here that goes against Republicans which is beginning to make me wonder.

I say keep calling but thank you much for the update. With Burr not releasing a statement yet I figured there was a problem in the office.

I just called the DC office, and the young guy would only say that Sen. Burr has not released a statement yet.

“Just called, and they told me the Senator does not have a position on S 1776 and that he would release a statement this week. The vote is scheduled for “sometime this week.”
++++++++++++++++

Good work. Let’s keep on him and burn up his lines...they will know now WE’RE watching and that we’re not in a business as usual period where they can ‘scratch backs’ as usual...

I disagree with the ‘naive’ statement above. KEEP CALLING, emailing, faxing...

If it doesn’t change this vote, it will the next or through to the elections...we WILL get their attention one way or the other.

Keep calling, but way be winning this one!!! See the following screen capture from Redstate (after reading this, pat yourself on the back, but keep calling Burr anyway!!!):

Harry Reid Blames the AMA. Can’t Bring Himself to Blame RedState.

Posted by Erick Erickson (Profile)

We, RedState readers, have defeated Harry Reid today and delivered a significant blow to the potential passage of Obamacare.

Harry Reid just ran to the Senate floor and cried that he cannot get enough votes to pass the doctors’ bribe to support Obamacare. He blamed the AMA for misleading him.

He might actually want to look to RedState. Our readers have generated hundreds and hundreds of phone calls in 24 hours to pretty much every Republican Senator. Several who had considered voting for cloture backed down.

And now the end run around Obamacare costs has been defeated.

This makes it much more difficult for Obamacare to pass and virtually impossible for it to pass without significant deficit blowing cost additions.

Well done activists!
