Not good enough! Saying “Oops, sorry we meant Hoffman,” shouldn’t save Sessions and Steele’s jobs
The Collins Report ^ | November 2, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Posted on 11/02/2009 6:03:16 AM PST by jmaroneps37

Michael Steele, the RNC Chair and NRCC Chair Pete Sessions have shown they aren’t up to their jobs.

This is an awful situation. Have Steele and Sessions made a big enough mess of NY 23?

These two geniuses backed a Working Families Party/ACORN rodent in Dede Scozzafava, who has now rubbed our noses in her treachery! After dropping out Scozzafava has “Trojan Horsed” us and asked her supporters to vote for Owens the registered Democrat.

Clearly Mr. Steele was an affirmative action panicky mistake from the day he took office. Now his selection is hurting us. He just doesn’t use facts. Steele said he backed ACORN’s Scozzafava because the man being replaced (John McHugh) voted “not much differently than” Scozzafava votes in the New York Assembly. McHugh had a 71% American Conservative Union rating!

Now that Scozzafava is out of the race Pete Sessions, who spent hundreds of thousands of our dollars running spots against Doug Hoffman and sent paid for ground troops to work AGAINST him, is calling “Do over!” Both organizations are now supporting Hoffman and will undoubtedly be celebrating should he win tomorrow.

Maybe the new predictions about the outcome of this race will be right, but what if the attack ads run by Sessions worked? What if the people who were “pitched” door to door were convinced Scozzafava should be elected?

Will Sessions send the same people to the same doors saying “Oops make that Doug Hoffman.”?

What if Scozzafava’s loonies listen to her?

Hoffman can still lose this race and “moral victories” mean nothing in politics. If he loses Steele and Sessions can’t be allowed to say “Ooops” and walk away..

If Doug wins we can’t let the euphoria cloud our next mission. We have to boot both of these frauds and do so quickly.

I reside in Pete Sessions district.....he has always been a staunch conservative... I am at a loss to understand how he could have done such a stupid thing. I went to his site to tell him what a disappointment his backing of such an awful candidate has been but the system would not let me send the message...I suspect it is overloaded....we in Texas don’t take kindly to such idiocy....he may be in trouble come 2010.

You are correct. If one was paranoid, one would almost think the R's ARE an offshoot of the DNC and are being paid by them to run known losers or D's.

The Rep. leaders today just want a job, and they keep coming to us for money, telling us at least they tried and we keep giving to them because we HAD faith they were doing the right thing. no more.

"Conservative" Republican Party only now, all else is a failure. We don't need no stinking RNC to tell us who to back, we now back our own.

Is the Conservative Party in New York going nationwide? Or is it already?

I need more info. May change my registration.

“.....Republican “leadership” is in it for the fringe benefits of being a DC “insider”.”

Your comment reminds me that I used to post often the desire of the Dems to be “in with the IN-CROWD” as the old song went.

I think you’ve hit on a point that unfortunately reaches across the aisle with all of the political “Look at me, I am somebody” sorts that warm those seats, and attempt to one-up each other at our expense.

The Conservative Party of New York is unique, due to N.Y. election law. In New York, candidates can run on more than one “line.”

So, a candidate can run as a Republican and a Conservative. Or as a Democrat and a Liberal. Or, in some cases, other combinations or those or other parties.

We clearly need new leadership in the GOP ASAP.

Look at all the benefits that accrue with being protected by the "insider establishment": you get to not pay taxes (and if caught, say "I forgot", pay what you need to, and move on). You get to have sex with interns and the press takes no notice. Your investments tend to do well, since you know in advance what's likely to happen in the economy. You have lots of cute lobbyists willing to spend weekends with you explaining the ins-and-outs of desired legislation.

Life is sweet for a member of the "in crowd" who plays ball with the people who matter.

“If the writer gets his way, Obama will win again in 2012. I can’t abide with the racist insults hurled at Steele, and conservatives should be careful before embrasing the kind of divisive politics this writer calls for.”

Where are you finding racism in the article? Calling Steele Incompetent, RINO, or dumba$$, is definately not racist.

The Republicans keep sending me those "surveys" that have all those multiple choice questions, too. Notice there is never a space for comments at the end?

They are adding to my landfill contribution with these mailings.

Next time, tape the BRM (business reply mail) envelope to a concrete block, and leave it on the Post Office loading dock. They’ll deliver it alright, with a $100+ postage due bill!

One word, Term Limits. Oh, that’s two words isn’t it? We need to return to the citizen statesman and I can’t see any other way to do that in this climate with all the incumbency advantages that are available.

In all fairness, the national party had nothing to do with Scuzzy’s selection as the candidate. That was a local party decision. But to throw $900,000 in party funds to elect her when there was a solid, credible conservative in the race was a mistake.

I can’t abide with the racist insults hurled at Steele

I can only assume you are referring to the assertion that he is an 'affirmative action panicky mistake' as the racist comment. Lets be blunt and avoid the traps of political correctness. Michael Steel was a one term Lieutenant Governor who was catapulted to be the first black head of the RNC nine days after the first black President took office. Mr. Steele is a strong supporter of affirmative action.

Only 3% of 'African-Americans' vote republican, and 'African-Americans' make up only 17% of the population. It is mathematically possible that he was selected based strictly on his qualifications, but the odds that he was the most qualified candidate not factoring in race are astronomical.

If his race was a factor in his selection, and it is a policy that HE supports, is it racist?

You are right about that. If I were to call you those names, that would not make me a racist either, but I'll refrain from that anyway. However claiming that Steele was an "affirmative action" pick implies that he got his job just because of his race rather than his competence. That's a racist insult, and is contrary to the facts.

I am sick of racists masquerading themselves as conservatives, and I won't hold back from applying that tag when it fits.

I support Hoffman, and wish that all good Republicans had from the start, but I will not kill the party because I got my feelings hurt.

What was the racist insult hurled at Steel?

One problem is that it would also need to include congressional staff, who are the people who really create the legislation these days. Otherwise the incoming replacement would have a big incentive to retain the outgoing congressman's staff, and the same faces would still be running things behind the scenes.

the real corrupting influence is all the money that is on the table. The federal government needs to be pruned about 80%.

You seem to be saying that it is not likely that Steele could be qualified for his job since he's black. How is that not racist? As far as I am concerned, you have only substantiated my concerns. I happen to believe that loyal Republicans are able to look at a man's qualifications without regard to the color of his skin. Until recently I thought only Democrats thought otherwise.
