CBSNews.com Exclusive: An Excerpt from "Sarah From Alaska" -- a New Book Telling the Inside Story of Palin's Campaign for VP
(CBS) In "Sarah From Alaska," Scott Conroy and Shushannah Walshe draw on their experiences as embedded campaign reporters, the many weeks they spent reporting in Alaska during Palin's last days as governor, and exclusive interviews with almost 200 former McCain/Palin staffers, top political minds, friends, and foes in Alaska to tell the remarkable behind-the-scenes story of Palin's political career and the events leading to her surprising resignation.
The authors share new insights and bring to light illuminating stories from Palin's governorship and vice presidential campaign. Read the excerpt below, which includes a prescient remark that Palin made to senior campaign aides after her debate with Joe Biden and revealing emails that demonstrate how she worked behind the scenes to try to convince the campaign's top strategists not to give up on winning the state of Michigan, much to their annoyance.
"Sarah From Alaska: The Sudden Rise and Brutal Education of a New Conservative Superstar" is now on sale at Amazon.com and is available in bookstores nationwide.

BTTT
All these worms trying to make a buck off Sarah.
In relation to your other thread, mark my words.
The Dems have internal polling showing that they are going to get HAMMERED in the elections tomorrow, and the White House has ordered the usual whores suspects to put out "thoughtful" hit pieces on Sarah PRONTO to negate any possible reflected glory coming her way, in particular from her endorsement of Hoffman.
(Incidentally, Sarah timed this right: shortly after the GOP CONSERVATIVE victories, her book will be coming out.)
Either that or some Dems are going to try to have her, Limbaugh, and Hannity bumped off. /half-sarc>
Cheers!
Even more libs trying to get on the Palin gravy-train. Make me wonder if they would work this hard if Biden came out with a memoir. I doubt it of course. That’s probably why he can’t get her off his mind.
I love it!
READ the SHOCKING TRUTH!
Sarah DIDN’T WANT TO GIVE UP MICHIGAN!!
Much to the ANNOYANCE of GOP STRATEGERISTS!!!”
I certainly hope that the media doesn’t expect much access to Sarah...cause they AIN’T gonna get it.
I breezed through the article, nothing damaging. If there were it would already be out, so they’ll soon be making stuff up (even more than usual).
In fact, a good deal of the article deals with how Sarah wanted to take the fight to Michigan when McCain was quitting before he won (what an asshat). So yeah, Sarah’s a terrible person who fights to win, how disgraceful /s.
Thanx (as if I needed to be reminded why I don’t waste time watching CBS “news”).
A brutal education about how serious and vicious the Democrat socialist enemies are—as bad or worse than America’s foreign enemies because too many Americans assume that Democrats can be trusted and that interviews with or coverage by such Americans would be somewhat honest and fair.
Of course she didn’t want to give up Michigan, she wanted to WIN..the McCain campaign’s only interest was kissing Obama’s ass and conceit defeat to him. Sarah wanted to win from the beginning
You know, the more they write abut Sarah, and the more they attack her, the more it adds to her support.
I hope they have fits and go to over extended hit pieces again just like they did in the run up to the 2008 election.
Sarah Palinn is a true America, and a patriot. The general public of all political pursuasions knows this. And every hit piece published converts thousands over to Palins cause, from all over the political spectrum. Thats how our lady wins elections.
This is actually freaking hilarious!
It proves that Palin was a ‘maverick’ all along and McCain and his ‘aides’ were the ones who were trying desperately to prevent her from being HER.
Considering that this is coming from CBS personnel and the people who have a grudge that they interviewed, this is immensely positive for Palin. It might even have a chance of selling a few copies unless later excerpts prove that it is the predictable anti-GOP screed that we’ve come to expect from anybody wearing a CBS logo (or virtually any other logo for that matter).
Oh, I KNOW she wanted to win Michigan! They spin it like it was Obama’s for the taking. No way! A galvanizing effort in Michigan could have swayed a lot of hearts and minds in Ohio and Indiana.
As bad as things were, the GOP could have had the 2008 race. Sarah knew it. No one else seemed to think so. It was close enough, as it turned out.
I wouldnt call it a hit piece. Some interesting tidbits.
Especially about wanting to go to MI unannounced and maybe inviting Leno or Letterman to tag along and cover it. Obviously she had a different opinoin of Dave at that point. Although I do think the Leno idea may have borne fruit.
Heck, Leno’s show is sinking big time now. Maybe she can invite him to cover her book tour. He’d get good ratings.
Also, the nugget about McCain steering clear of Wright(and by assocaition Ayers) because he just didn’t want to be seen as a guy who used race to stop the 1st black guy from winning. In the end, McCain just didn’t want it enough.
I’m sure she’ll have mnore to say in her book. The line about giving it “the ol college try” reminded me of some of Reagan’s letters that I read in that book of his letters. Sounded like something he would say.
I think tomorrow night will be a good night.
Sarah busted her ass for that campaign. They never wanted to win. Sarah at least wanted to try. She saw the writing on the wall when they all gave up around her, she was probably like “What gives, I thought you guys want to win” they probably all laughed at her when she said that, so she knew what she was dealing with.
Here she is, being smeared by the press day after day, yet she still busted her butt and had 6 rallies per day and STILL wanted to travel to Michigan and give it a try. Now THAT is leadership
SP education? The only one that will be taken to school are the Demmies :)
My guess is that if the economy had not gone south on 9/15, that McCain would have won, or the election would have been a 1960-type squeaker. That is why they were so desperate to take Palin out.
Sarah Palin is “Life,Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”
