Gay marriage loses by 5 points, that’s great.. but here’s what I don’t get about Maine..

They actually had a refferendum on whether voters must approve tax increases... and IT FAILED!!! And FAILED by 20 points!! WTH???

VOTER APPROVAL OF TAX INCREASES
No 332604 60.19%
Yes 219953 39.81%

With that sort of result to that question, its pretty obvious ME is not a conservative state.

I’m not huge on true democracy because it leads simply to mob rule and pandering, but for the limited question of tax increases? I think voter approval would be a damned good thing to keep government in check.

I am quite upset that MY revenue-positive plan for
Gay and Lesbian Lumberjacks in Winter Camp Civil Unions
was also shot down. Some voters hadn't even heard of it!

I had proposed temporary, annually renewable contracts or "permits," actually, from September to Ice-Out, for a fee of $10,000. Next time Baldacci comes after me for money, I am going to be very irate that they turned down my proposal. Woulda been found money!

Tonight, by the way, there's a Muslim Gay and Lesbian (I had thought Lesbians were also "gay," but apparently not) Meeting over to LA. The topic is going to be "Polygamous Gay Marriage for Muslims." Should be interesting. Cheaper than goin' to the movies. Ayuh. Pity they meet the same night as the VFW.

So basically you quit and leap to conclusions.

Quite the combo.

Those vote results read like a list of really sick people who do not deserve any freedom. They are looking for a king to lead and take from them.

I think hypothetically, if the Gay Marriage ban referendum were to be put on a national ballot tommorow, we’d be lucky to get 55% for traditional marriage....The culture is crumbling.

Probably more support nationwide, but the tragic consequence would be a consolation action by pro-traditional marriage supporters - to grant something to the losers. This would be "civil unions" identical to marriage. A losing proposition for everyone.

It’s only a matter of time with the public school system indoctrination going on.

Are gays really that active in schools today? I only hear reports of major activity in California or Massachusetts. As I reckon, most of the indoctrination comes through television, music and other elements of youth culture, not the schools themselves. Are GLSEN and GSA clubs all that established and more influential than, say, the chess club?

I grant that it will be tougher to take on the gay movement, but why act like the battle is already lost? 31 voting states vs. 5 court- or legislature-imposed SSM states. We're definitely winning at the moment, it's not a final victory, but it's nowhere close to a total defeat either.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court today denied the suit the gays brought against Wisconsin’s cutuzens VOTE to deny gay marriage. :)

This has been a good week for our side. :)

I’m sorry. I mis-spoke. It was the REGISTRY our gay-loving Governor set up to let gays register themselves as married to get taxpayer-funded state goodies.

Do you deny that these would of been landslides only 20 years ago?

If these votes were limited to people younger than 35, Gay Marriage would be passing.

As the boomers die and the children of the young people who are beginning to accept gay marriage become voting age themselves, these referendums are toast.

Recipients outnumber producers in Maine by quite a bit.

I would not say it would have been landslides, considering the doped-out 60’s generational attitudes of the past decades.

If America was going to vote for so-called gay marriage it would have most likely already done so had the homosexuals not missed the bus in promoting it.

Now with every rejection the traditional foundation of America is reaffirmed and stronger than before as people see it alright and proper to protect marriage.

I don’t see that young people are accepting of homosexuals.

I would say the most strident anti-homosexuals are actually young people.

All you have to do is listen to them. They often call something that sucks “GAY”.

I agree that's the case, but only if young people's opinions stay static. Why assume that?

Age (and marriage itself) has a way of changing people's opinions, and parents of minors today will be more attentive to instilling a proper view of marriage than parents of current twentysomethings were.

My pessimism encourages more effort, and more intelligent effort. The legal revolution SSM will create (lawsuits, closed Christian foster agencies, re-education in schools, etc...) is incentive enough to continue the fight. 31-0 is the record now. Defeatism is premature.
