NY-23: All of a Sudden, Pessimism at Hoffman HQ
Washington Independent ^ | 11/3/2009 1030 PM | David Weigel

SARANC LAKE, N.Y. – The mood is getting darker at NY-23 Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman’s election party. Results from Jefferson County–Republican territory that John McCain carried–show Owens in the lead. And the Syracuse suburbs–Madison, Oswego, and Oneida County–are not showing the blowouts that early polling suggested. The first results from Oswego show Hoffman at 2800, Owens at 2000, and Scozzafava at 324. The final Siena poll had Hoffman leading Democrat Bill Owens by a margin of 51 percent to 28 percent in this region.

I asked Hoffman’s spokesman Rob Ryan for a reaction, and he suggested that it was hard to know the trends without knowing which wards the votes were coming from. That’s true, but it’s significantly less optimism than Ryan was projecting earlier tonight.

Isn’t that a sad commentary...he can’t in because he wasn’t made for TV? How many good people don’t run because of that?

So if David Duke ran as a Pub again in Louisiana, the GOP would send him money?

Extreme on anything means not amenable to ANY compromise.

For example no abortion allowed even in case of rape by a criminal carrying AIDS virus.

Have you heard anything about ballots being seized by authorities? That was a question posed by someone on another site who said they had heard it on Hannity or somewhere.

That is the reality of life. The best looking men and women are programmed by nature to carry on the most genes.

Checked your history.

You appear to be an anti-Palin Mittbot.

Therefore, you may be disregarded.

Duke could never win a GOP primary in 21st century Louisiana therefor he could never run as a Republican candidate.

I don’t know why they don’t see the breakdown came at the NY level not at the national level either. Bothers me when conservatives want the Rules in place broken when they don’t do what they want. The reason you have Party Rules is to follow them.

Well said. I make no bones about it, this is exactly why I’m against 3rd party candidates. Even had he won, Hoffman would have polarized his own, and that’s never good.

You have the get the nomination and Duke would NEVER get the nomination. Just because you run as a Republican in the primary doesn’t mean you are going to be the candidate.

This was a special election with NO primary as the candidate was chosen by the County Chairs of the Congressional District.

I just don’t see a Hoffman defeat as a “blow” to Palin in any way, shape or form, regardless of the MSM spin. First off, Palin actually got the RINO out of the race. Then she made this a close race between a democrat and a THIRD PARTY, yes Hoffman is a THIRD PARTY candidate.

Let’s flash forward to next year and assume the GOP wises up and actually puts Hoffman on its ticket. Does anyone here really think that if Hoffman were the GOP nominee this election would even be close? He would be giving a victory speech right now.

I suspect foul play....but so many factors to think about, with two parties against Hoffman, the pub/rat backing the fellow rat, and the stupid rinos ....

then, acorn and seicu...etc...

its all good though....the rat better mind his business and vote like he could lose the next election, because he probably will....

I am with you 100% and having a hard time understanding why people on here cannot see what just happened. RNC and NRCC had no choice but to support her. It went bad in NY not nationally.

One thing this shows me is that the GOP better clear the slate of anyone who ran in 2008 and get some fresh faces to run in 2012. I heard Christie and McDonnell speak and am completely impressed with both of them.

OK has had 8 years of a Dem Governor because a Republican didn’t like Largent and ran as an Indy pulling enough votes away to give us Henry. I am with you on 3rd parties. I agree with you 100%.

Just what is an “extreme conservative” you used that term twice?

It’s easy to “sugar coat” it. LOOK at NY 23 in 2008

President
Obama 51.8%
McCain 46.6%
(Obama by 5.2%)

Hoffman was an amateur, the RINO stabbed him in the back, early voters couldn’t change their vote when Scuzzy bailed, etc.

If you’re going to throw around the term “extreme conservative” you’re posting on the wrong board. You’re no better than a troll to me.

Fulton County (apparently reporting tomorrow) has a population of 55,000, which would be about 7& of the district, so it likely has about 10,000 votes. That could bring Hoffman up maybe 1,000. Not enough. He needs 4,500 votes

I'm guessing that the “rat” is less liberal than the candidate who was masquerading as a Republican.

Seriously speaking, it was a politcal blunder to nominate a complete political novice such as Hoffman. I am sure there are other conservative people in NY-23 who are more astute politically, and have some resemblance of charisma. If this Hoffman dude showed up for job interview at my firm, I would have rejected him based on his lack of human interaction skills. I think Sarah Palin made a serious mistake in backing Hoffman. She deserves better.
