The only party to be kept in the dark about Islamic fervor in this case would be the American People. Obviously, any members of a possible jihadi conspiracy would already be in the know.

This is still an evolving story and Lt General Lynch is, to my knowledge, an honorable man and an Engineer by trade. Engineers deal in facts, because lives depend on them.
He has commanded in combat, is Airborne (you DID see his jump wings, yes?) and has a history for dealing with the press....
Perhaps you could look up his bio, and search for the stories when he spanked the press asshats in Iraq....
