FORT HOOD, Texas A U.S. Army hospital spokesman said the man suspected in a deadly shooting spree at Fort Hood is conscious and able to talk.
Dewey Mitchell, a spokesman at Brooke Army Medical Center, said Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan remains in stable condition. Mr. Mitchell said Maj. Hasan has been awake and able to talk since he was taken off a ventilator Saturday.
Maj. Hasan is at Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Hood.
Authorities say the 39-year-old Maj. Hasan opened fire at a processing center Thursday at Fort Hood, the country's largest military installation. Thirteen people were killed and 30 were wounded.
The rampage ended when civilian police shot Maj. Hasan.
Army officials said their investigators increasingly believe that Maj. Hasan was the lone gunman in the carnage. "Right now we're operating on the belief that he acted alone and had no help," said a military official familiar with the Army Criminal Investigation Division probe.
To help settle the question more definitively, the official said, military investigators were trying to determine where Maj. Hasan had purchased his handguns and the large quantity of ammunition used in the attack.
At least one weapon, an expensive semiautomatic handgun, came from gun store Guns Galore in Killeen, where the Army base is located, law-enforcement officials said. A person who answered the phone at the store Friday said it was cooperating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and had been asked by law-enforcement officials not to comment.
Military and civilian law-enforcement authorities are examining Maj. Hasan's phone and computer records to see if he had communicated with any extremist elements in the days before the attack, according to a military official familiar with the matter.

Thanks a LOT. I just choked on my lunch!!
Love this...it should be hung in his hospital room on all the walls so it is ever in his gaze..no relief from this.
That's IT! Physician, heal thyself!
Why couldnt he be treated by a dangerously and totally incompetent affirmative action product, like our President?
Maybe I should have said “under the hoof”? I wish Zero and Michelle couldn’t attend the ceremony tomorrow. They won’t share tears w/the families. We will hear pc rhetoric. These heroes were willing to give their lives for us, but their chain of command protected their own “cover your rear” careers. They were afraid of the PC BS to speak against the enemy among them. Ah..but they will read verses from the Bible, that’s not pc.
I like your idea (it’s very practical)
Apparently, so did great US leaders like “Black Jack “ Pershing.
2) Maybe the FBI sent agents out to every gun shop in the area, looked through the 4473 forms, and got lucky.
3) Something I haven't thought of yet.
Not being paranoid, but my bet's on horse #1.
The same thought crossed my mind after the make model and place of purchase was announced so quickly.
In my ignorance I thought the NICS data was stored for six months. Thanks for educating me.
The FBI tipped their hand and used the NISC system !
I too am betting on horse #1.
Only fair to warn you I only bet on sure things and fixed horse races.
Yes there is! Don’t be PC anymore and don’t give a shit if folks are bothered by your non-PC! The day has come when a Spade needs to be called a spade! Tell all your friends, co-workers and family!
Maybe we’ll get lucky and some reporter will ask him who he voted for in the 2008 presidential election.
An improper use of NICS would be having personal info on an individual and being able to discover what types of guns the individual purchased. Say, for example, if they couldn't find any murder weapon, but then came along and said they were looking for a certain type of 9mm that the perp bought.
That doesn't seem to be the case here however, because they had the weapon. Once they have the weapon itself, it can be easily traced without using NICS or any other fed resources.
I asked this on another post with no responce.....whens the POS get charged with 13 counts of murder
Get statements from him now! He has had no time to watch the media excuse his actions and start lying.
It's on sale at Cabela's, item # 9IS-216819, $100 for 250 rounds, cheaper if you order more. I'm sure an MD with salary of $100K/yr, living in a doghouse, having no family and no hobby, could afford the gun ($1000) and as much ammo as he needed.
Good, now that he is awake and able to talk hook a car battery to his testicles and find out whether he is part of an organized group.
Texas may not require it but every gun purchased from a retail dealer in America is accompanied by a BATF form 4473 and a background check. Your gun may not be registered but the transaction sure is.
I still want to know if he shaved his body hair.
Has anyone heard the Luby’s massecure mentioned in relation to this story?
how do you say “Im screwed” in Arabic?
I can answer this. They went to the manufacturer who told them which wholesaler they transferred it to, who told them which FFL dealer they sold it to, who told the FBI who bought it.
FIST is apparently still with us.
post of the day!!!!!
They just traced it the normal way. They contacted FN, asked what jobber/wholesaler that serial number was sold to. Then they contacted that jobber/wholesaler and asked which dealer that serial number was sold to. All those records are required to be maintained, just as the 4473s are required to be kept at the dealers. Then they went to Guns Galore, and asked to see that 4473.
You might still not be paranoid enough, but it's not necessary to figure out how they did this. It's whole reason guns are required to have serial numbers, and for those records to be maintained at the various points along the supply chain.
Now if they can figure where he bought ammo and spare magazines, assuming it wasn't Guns Galore, then you have something to be paranoid about. :)
I wonder if he’s gonna “die” unexpectedly after he’s done “talking”.
I wonder if he’s gonna “die” unexpectedly after he’s done “talking”.
That's not NICS, it's really not any system, they call the manufacturer or importer, who is required to keep records of who they sell guns to. That wholesaler/distributor is then called. They provide the name of the dealer the gun was shipped to. They call, or probably in this case visit, the dealer, who looks in his records, which could include the 4473 form, and tells them who bought it and when.
Maybe his purchase was recent enough that the dealer rembered the murderers puss when it was plastered in the press or they simply do a reverse trace from FN to the jobber then the distributor then the dealer. The dealer keeps the 4473’s I believe. Easier to come from top down when ya have the gun and the suspect.
Just my SWAG on the matter.....
“Pour oil down his throat....”
Forget oil. Go with Bacon drippings
Then show him a video of himself being blessed by a Rabbi.
After that, he can have a refreshing cleaning of his wounds with some lemon juice and a salt scrub.
Then he can meet with the soldiers that he wounded and the families of those he killed.
“Not being paranoid, but my bet’s on horse #1.”
I can’t think of any one on this thread that would take you up on that bet, Joe.
“I will take the liberty to disagree with you on one point. I wouldnt resign, I would stay and do everything I could to remove all muslims from the service.”
Unfortunately, the liberals in control will find the solution to be outlawing private ownership of guns. We know muslims are the problem, liberals know guns are the problem. Ronald Reagan said it best...”they know so much that isn’t so.”
Tracing the serial number forward from the manufacturer through each FFL transaction until it arrived in the perp’s hand.
1) Maybe that NICS data isn’t getting destroyed within 24 hours like the law requires.
We know it is not being destoryed.
Probably went back through the non-existent NICS database...
