We won because [the Democrats] need us," says Mr. Stupak. "If they are going to summarily dismiss us by taking the pen to that language, there will be hell to pay. I don't say it as a threat, but if they double-cross us, there will be 40 people who won't vote with them the next time they need usand that could be the final version of this bill." This is what he's promised; we'll see if he delivers. I'd believe him before I'd believe "Republicans" like Cao.

Is the WSJ really this gullible?

My husband was a high school classmate of Bart’s in Gladstone, Michigan. He’s a good guy overall and a typical “yooper”. He’s not a liberal in the Northeast Liberal mold but is a little more moderate than the Southern blue dogs.

Rush, yesterday said the same re Sutpak.
“What a crock. Stupak knew that this ban would be removed in committee.
He tried to save his own rear end at the expense of unborn babies.
Craven in the extreme.”

Have to wonder about WSJ sometimes. Business Investors Daily is my newspaper of choice. The Journal seems to miss it a lot of the time these days.

Why does the adjective “Pyrrhic” keep attaching itself to this so-called victory in my cynical little mind?

Pyrrhic is an excellent way to describe this farce against Americans: "A Pyrrhic victory (pronounced /ˈpɪrɪk/) is a victory with devastating cost to the victor.

He is not my rep, but I seem to remember his first campaign.
He was pro- gun control, and getting beat up on the issue.
He called a big well-publicized meeting with hunters and said all the right things: he is a former state trooper, he and all his friends are hunters, he will defend hunters’ rights to hunting guns, but ...
those downstate folks (Detroit etc.; I don’t think he crossed the PC “code” lines) can’t be trusted, especially with automatic weapons with more firepower than the cops have.
