Mount Mayon volcano in the Philippines, which killed scores in an eruption 16 years ago, has spewed an ash plume leading to fears it may blow again.

You can just imagine a pyroclastic flow racing down the sides of that sharp peak. Not a real good neighborhood to be in just now.
Ping
Lots of volcanos in the Philippines
Mayon at bat?
They should rename it Mt. Gore..
No sunspots + volcanic eruptions = next ice age
Valerie Plame sparks eruption concerns?
What happens if it blows and throws up all that ash and pollution into the atmospere? We need to get Al Gore over there right away and put a stop to this.
When Mt. Pinatubo blew in the early 90’s it cooled the planet for two years at least. That will just not do right now, because Al Gore and his minions are so close to their global warming golden goose of cap and trade. They would have it already if the damn earth hadn’t started cooling on it’s own early this decade........................
More than two years alter the Philippine volcano Mr. Pinatubo blew its top in June 1991, debris from the eruption continues to warp Earth’s climate, according to atmospheric measurements. Scientists studying records from 1993 say the Pinatubo blast caused temperatures in the stratosphere to plummet, reaching record lows at the end of the year.
“It’s mighty cool up there. These are the lowest temperatures since 1958,” says James K. Angell, an atmospheric researcher with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Silver Spring, Md.
Is the Ring of FiRe heating up? Not good.
Ring of Fire
Volcanic arcs and oceanic trenches partly encircling the Pacific Basin form the so-called Ring of Fire, a zone of frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The trenches are shown in blue-green. The volcanic island arcs, although not labelled, are parallel to, and always landward of, the trenches. For example, the island arc associated with the Aleutian Trench is represented by the long chain of volcanoes that make up the Aleutian Islands.

Philippine volcano ‘set to erupt’ Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines The Philippine authorities have ordered the evacuation of about 35,000 people living near a volcano, saying an eruption could take place soon. The alert was raised to four - the second highest level - following increased activity at Mount Mayon, in the centre of the country. It has been rumbling since February and started emitting lava in mid-July. Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines, having erupted about 50 times in the past 400 years. People living in the region watched with alarm early...
Can’t we sacrifice say, Al Gore, into the volcano thus sating the appetite of the gods? It’s certainly worth a try. /jk
There also was a 5.5 earthquake Wednesday morning in NE Mindanao. No report yet from Mrs ASA Vet's family who live there.
No sunspots cool Earth and cause volcanic eruptions = next ice age
This has happened quite often. Mayon is dangerous, and potentially threatens the whole province of Albay. My father grew up in a nearby town, and he recalled that they had to evacuate. An uncle who farmed there later had to evacuate villagers from the slopes.

Less than the beat of a hummingbirds' wings on a geologic timescale.
That has always got to be in the back of someone’s mind. Beautiful but difficult place to live.
There’s no hurry. Mayon calendar says it won’t erupt until 2012.
Thanks for the information.
I just woke up and have not heard about either event.
