Pro-Palin Vs Anti-Palin (A Substance Based Debate) Vanity

Posted on 11/17/2009 9:07:07 PM PST by TheArizona

I would like a substance based debate for and against Sarah Palin. I don't want to hear vague platitudes and statements not based in fact or an opinion not backed up by a well thought out explanation. This is not meant to be a kool aid drinking session nor a bashing session. I also do not want to hear debate about any other candidates. This is a Sarah Palin only discussion. I want to see a substanative debate among Liberty loving conservatives as to why or why not Sarah Palin should be the conservative standard bearer and leader.

Sure.

Page 45: "...the Gop just made sense for someone like me, a believer in individual rights and responsibilities rather than heavy-handed government; in free-market principles that included reward for hard work; respect for equality; support for a strong military; and a belief that America is the best country on earth."

Page 45-46. Talks about Reagan, calling him

"one of the most inspiring individuals ever to occupy the White House, President Ronald W. Reagan"

(compare this by the way to the treasonous Communist moles left over in the drive by media, crediting deposed dictator Gorbachev with the fall of the Berlin Wall).

Sarah's book continues on pp. 45-46 to talk of Reagan's role in ending the Iranian hostage crisis, saying

"What did he have that Carter didn't? To me the answer was obvious. He had a steel spine."

And then she eulogizes Reagan for the next page and a half.

On page 85:

"Likewise, I believed that national leaders have a responsibility to respect the Tenth Amendment and keep their hands off the states. It's the old Jeffersonian view that the affairs of the citizens are best left in their own hands. So when I discussed economic policy, I wasn't shy about calling myself a hard-core fiscal conservative."

What's not to like?

Read the book: it is loaded with goodies like a monster cookie is with M&Ms.

Cheers!

She is not in favor of illlegals and wants a secure border.

Can you give me a link to an interview or a transcript or a recording of her repudiation of a "pathway to citizenship"?

YOu need to listen to her interview with Rush which is online.

Wed. night on Mark Levin’s talk show, he will interview Sarah Palin at the top of his second hr.
She will be on with Hannity on TV tomorrow night.
Laura Ingraham will interview Sarah as well Bill O’Reilly
Many chances to hear what others know already about her foreign affairs, energy, etc. views.

In the primary..if it is Palin against generic fiscal conservative...the generic candidate gets the vote.

If fellow Rs vote her as the candidate...she gets my vote in the general regardless.

I run into lots of apolitical folks who are not fans of Barry and co. but voted for him anyway because quite frankly Palin and her statements and lack of presentation scared them. I desperately want the rats out of power and would be very disappointed if we give carter his third term because of a reflexive emotional tilt toward “Sarah”

Which leads to another point that worries me..the ‘Sarah’ phenomenon..in which her most avid supporters are in Hillary! esque fashion chanting her first name and personalizing their affection for this person.

One thing I have always liked about conservatives has been their more mature view of life and politics and their tendency to shy away from the cult of personality.

Granted I am a huge fan of Reagan...but that personal and historic adoration he gets is well deserved for decades of tangible success in sticking it to the left and liberating the American economy and power - while at the same time puching a massive hole in the iron curtain.

Sarah! has few if any tangible accomplishements to merit such a huge response.

I know this will inflame alot of her supporters and like I said she will get my vote over ANY rat, but lets be honest, she is not well spoken and has very few original ideas.

‘drive by media’..no need to get emotional...its beneath you. I boycott the alphabet media as I have no need to support a fifth column. The whole point of this discussion was supposed to be one of civilty? no? if we cant be rational we are stuck with 0 until 2016.

since your so well read...

do us all a favor and tell us one original idea she has.

No, not a rehashed Reagan mantra, something she has developed herself..

cheers to you.

You are going by what was said when she was a VP running mate. McCain was at the top of the ticket.

You refuse to hear or read just in the past few days especially today what Palin has said nor have you read her book.
Do this and then come back.

Why does she need to have any original ideas to be acceptable?

Weren't Reagan's *ideas* good enough for you?

He got suckered twice by Congress--once on taxes, once on illegal aliens; and he didn't get Bork on the Supreme Court.

But his ideas were all sound.

Cheers!

As with any political figure, I would take what they write in a book with a grain of salt. While I am a Palin Kool Aide drinker, I would be intellectually flawed to base everything off what is written in a book written after her national campaign and before her second potentially. Is there anything to back up what is in the book?

If you refuse to hear the interviews of today and you won’t bother tomorrow through next week, nor will you read her book, Your arguments will still be both false and old.

I dont think even the most committed conservative claims Reagan was perfect.

Believe it or not, we are on the same team. As I said before the R gets my vote so the rats can be flushed out.

The argument is not over ideology. All I am cautioning against is engaging in the personality worship that is the hallmark of the left...fidel, chavez, etc and you know who.

If you had read any of the book, you'd already *know*.

I tried to touch on it by referring to Piper at the Alaska State Fair, the visits with Native villagers, etc.

But she lets a LOT of personal stuff out in the book -- this is not a "look, I gave red meat to the nutroots to get elected" type of book.

And the *types* of fights she picked with politicians, and being excluded from the good 'ol boys network -- witness Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace for *recent* examples -- shows that she is not an insider: the types of jabs the insiders aim at each other is not as full of intensely personal dislike as the jabs aimed at her.

Either her policies, or her personal integrity, are rubbing the political chattering class the wrong way.

And *both* of those choices are consistent with what is on every page of her book.

Cheers!

Before Roe it was stickily a states issue, I think only 1 or 2 states allowed it...Michigan was anti-abortion and with Roe that changed immediately...I think that most states would again make it illegal. The only other way is a constitutional amendment and that will never happen..Unless you want the USSC to outlaw it....courts making laws again.... When Roe was taken to the SC its backers even said it would be too expensive to go state by state....They couldn't get any headway going that route...

I respect her character, as it shows in what she has written of herself, including some of her faults and mistakes.

(As, in a very different connection, CNBC's James Cramer of Mad Money wrote of some very humiliating things in his own life, in his book Confessions of a Street Addict. Though he is a flaming lib, his writing of these things in the book earned him my respect.)

Cheers!

President Sarah Palin, with the help of Conservative congress critters, will tear down the socialist wall that obama and his pack of marxist communist loving socialists are building around us.

Palin’s got the heart and the moxie to do it!

She’s a born leader. We all saw it during the campaign. She can lead us and help us keep our heads up while we buckle down and fight to pay off obama and the big spending liberals massive debt they loaded onto our backs.

And instead of being ashamed of our country, we will have a President who has no problem feeling the pride in being an American.
