John F. Kennedy believed that being passed over for vice president by the Democratic convention in 1956 saved his political career. That year, Adlai Stevenson, the presidential nominee, had left the selection of his running mate to the convention delegatesthe last time a nominee did so. The choice came down to Kennedy and his Senate colleague Estes Kefauver of Tennessee, who had lined up too much early support even for the attractive young war hero to overcome. In the end, Kennedy had it both ways. He benefited from the television exposure and was spared the blamewhich as a Catholic, he would have sharedfor Stevenson's walloping by President Eisenhower that November. As for Estes, except for crossword puzzlers, nobody much remembers him.
Running and losing for vice president has never been a promising route to the Oval Office. Yet Sarah Palin, even before this week's book tour mediathon, has been touted by some as the heir apparent of the Republican Party, if not its de facto leader. Right-wing devotees cheer her on, liberals writhe in fear lest she come within 3,000 miles of the White House, and the news media lavish her with attention that's out of proportion to her actual chances of a political future. In fact, only one defeated vice presidential candidate ever achieved the feat that Palin would like to duplicate, and to date she shows no signs of resembling Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
FDR, as a young assistant secretary of the Navy, ran in 1920 as running mate to Ohio Gov. James Cox,

More moronic drivel.
Whistling past the graveyard?
Perhaps, perhaps not but one thing we know for sure is that David Greenberg will never rise above left wing dipsh-t.
Reagan failed many times, lost many campaigns for various offices before he was elected Governor and then President.
How soon the LibTards forget. ;)
But maybe they DO remember...and see what’s on their horizon? Better shoot her down now? Nah. They’re not all that smart. They’re already self-destructing one year in after gaining the Presidency again, LOL!
Slate is a left wing rag, but in this case the author is right. Sarah Palin is destined to be a talk show host, not president. She isn’t presidential material. If we hitch our wagon to her, we’ll lose. I’m waiting for the real conservative hope to emerge. It wont be Romney, Huckaphony, or any of the losers from 2008.
You can count on the Palin bashers to use liberal sources
(Slate)for the thread
“The things that are impossible with man are possible with GOD.”
Sarah Palin is no Dan Quayle...
Who would have ever expected a self-professed enemy (muslim) loving, most far left Senator who was completely inexperienced and refused to release records documenting his history to ever be elected???
If he weren’t black I think he would have been laughed off the national stage.
Slate just guarnteed she will win!!!
If Obama can be president, anyone can be president.
I hate these people because they hate us.
The unfortunate thing is that they’re in charge.
Comparing Dan Quayle to Sarah Palin is like comparing Kyle Orton to Tom Brady.
For someone who has no chance of being President, she sure has agitated a lot of liberals.
They tried to paint Reagan and Bush as idiots. They both won two terms.
Quayle was cooked primarily because of his association with Bush I.
The truth that is so sad for the left is that he is actually intelligent, at least far more intelligent than Gore, Kerry and Obammie the Commie.
And he was right about Murphy Brown and how effed up it is for single women to have children intentionally for their own selfish desires.
Do you know why Obama is president? Because the Democrats wanted to win.
Liberals are sooooo concerned about her. I know they have the interest of the American people in mind. That said, liberals are morons and we need to vote these morons out. Reading their drivel, though, is slightly entertaining, but pathetio.
sorry...spell check. “pathetic” at the end.
