McCain takes up 'death panel' charge on floor By J. Taylor Rushing - 11/21/09 06:24 PM ET
Former GOP presidential nominee John McCain (Ariz.) used Saturday's Senate floor debate on healthcare reform to repeat the controversial "death panel charge" that his running mate, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has been heavily criticized for.
In a scripted exchange with Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso (Wyo.), McCain assailed a recent recommendation by a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services panel that women receive regular mammograms once they reach 50 years of age, instead of the traditional 40. McCain used that to revive a criticism of the Democratic-written healthcare bill that Palin raised over the summer, that advisory boards could create polices that would make them become "death panels."
"Isn't that the kind of advisory board that this legislation could put into law, that those kinds of mandates could come down which could literally jeopardize the health and lives of Americans?" McCain asked Barrasso.
Barrasso's wife is a breast cancer survivor, a fact he referenced.
"This type of legislation would have cost my wife her life," Barrasso said. "She is a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed by a routine screening mammogram. And she was in her 40s when that mammogram was performed... It was a screening mammogram that saved her life."
A grinning McCain then asked, "You would not describe that as a death panel?"
Barrasso replied, "Some people might."
Wait a minute. McCain is actually acting like a Republican?
WOW, so not only is he defending Sarah Palin, but he is also saying that there are indeed death panels. Either he finally grew a sack or he is afraid that he will lose in 2010
care to explain
amazing now imagine if the GOP was always like this.
There is still a long way to got but a word of advoe for our lefty trolls.
I grew up in England and have family over there and I know what Govt health care is all about.
IT DOES NOT WORK.
I could give you a list of horrible cases but of course you will still not believe it.
Lets put it this way.
That checking of the boobs then get used to Govt telling you that you will not be covered, you watch that cancer rate go up and you watch your taxes go right up.
Yes lefty troll Govt health care in the UK is not free it costs a lot of money and you WILL FIND OUT of this passes
It can still be stopped—at the next cloture vote. Reid doesnt yet have the votes to pass the bill.
Ant-truth, anti-freedom, anti-constitutional, anti-life SCUM SUCKING SOCIALIST CRIMINALS ALWAYS JEOPARDIZE THE HEALTH AND LIVES OF Americans.
Witness history, McSCRIPTED McRINO. Sheesh, to think I voted for you.
Death panels used to exist at dialysis centers, when dialysis machines were too scarce to meet the demand. Well into the sixties, people died from ESRD because there just wasn't enough dialysis time to go around.
Death panels exist now, at any given hospital transplant program, due to naturally occurring shortages of donated organs. People die today because there aren't enough organs to go around.
Under the gubbermint rationing plans, people will die due to contrived shortages of financial allocations.
They will pretend that failure to fund needed care is unavoidable, the same as the naturally occurring shortage of resources such as dialysis machines or donated livers. But they will be lying.
Why now John? You are late to the party.
Will O Bow Mao try to raise another half million to counter McCain's Death Camp claims?
Yeh...pap and prostate exams every TWO years...
He must be getting nervous about those close polling numbers back home.
Too late “Specter” McCain. As usual.
About 3 percent of the time he has a moment of clarity.
agreed
.
today it is the norm but I will not stand by while this great country go the same way as my old country
McCain has acted alot more like a republican lately. Some might suggest its because he's up for re-election in 2010. Or might I suggest that Sarah had an effect on him.
All those Damnocrats know it doesn't work. This is all about destroying America.
