Obama Shatters Spending Record for First-Year Presidents (Captain Obvious!)
Foxnews ^ | 11/24/2009 | Staff

President Obama has shattered the budget record for first-year presidents -- spending nearly double what his predecessor did when he came into office and far exceeding the first-year tabs for any other U.S. president in history.

In fiscal 2009 the federal government spent $3.52 trillion -- $2.8 trillion in 2000 dollars, which sets a benchmark for comparison. That fiscal year covered the last three-and-a-half months of George W. Bush's term and the first eight-and-a-half months of Obama's.

That price tag came with a $1.4 trillion deficit, nearly $1 trillion more than last year. The overall budget was about a half-trillion more than Bush's for 2008, his final full fiscal year in office.

Look, there’s plenty of shame in this for Obama. We can all agree on that point. Bush has plenty to be ashamed of as well though. I don’t think we’re being very honest with ourselves if we don’t admit that.

Obama is unbearable. Bush was a major disappointment to me, and I expected him to be a disappointment from the start. He exceeded my expectations in that department.

This last fiscal year has been absolutely horrible for the nation. Both major parties suck hind tit!

“Obama is a moron, but we will come out of this eventually, no problem. We’re America, we can do it!”

The United States is roughly 12 Trillion in debt. There are roughly 45 Million taxpayers in the United States. To pay off the debt owed by the United States, each taxpayer would have to pay roughly $300,000.

The average savings balance of an American household is about $32,000.

The debt simply can't be paid off. SNL hit the nail on the head in it's recent skit spoofing Obama.

I don't think he cares. The plan is to knock US off its pedestal (George soros words). The way they spend at the white house when the rest of the country is hurting. All of the parties and travel. Michelle Obama's dress she wore last night took 40 people in Indian 3 weeks to make. Probably paid with tax payer money, her personal trainer and staff. They flaunt the spending.

They are acting like royalty.

these braindead idiots on the left think because Bush left us a debt that it is OK for their messiah to spend more than all the presidents combined

Barack Obama will be known as the ‘post’ American President.

The ‘progressive’ agenda is to loot and pillage this nations treasure in revenge for the victims they created.

and yet this morning I saw on FOX a Dem who was still harping on about Bush leaving us debt.

And although GWB was hardly a fiscal conservative, did this same Dem mention that the debt has skyrocketed since the Democrats took control of both Houses of Congress in January '07?

Did he also point out the votes on the exhorbitant spending bills where Senator Obama voted 'nay'?!

Didn't think so.

Are you freaking nuts?

At first pass, I'd tend to agree. But on second thought, nothing less than a total trainwreck will get the current crop of Americans off their couches and on their feet. We need that if this country is going to survive.

It won't be easy, but we can survive even this mess--IF we learn from it, discard the socialist crap and impediments to innovation and small business which have accumulated over the last few decades and get our butts in gear.

We are still the best country in the World, and once we shuck off the burden of dead weight (and by that I do not mean those who are unable to support themselves or the elderly, but the parasite classes who masquerade as public servants) we'll do one heck of a lot better.

It's past time we cleaned house, philosophically, morally, and physically.

Once we do, we'll be in a fine position to recover.

The debt simply can't be paid off.

It can, it will take time, innovation, and the creation of wealth by Americans, not farming that out.

First, though, we have to quit spending a third of our annual budget servicing the debt.

How?

Previously, the US Treasury issued United States Notes, which were legal tender, circulating currency and which eliminated the middleman (The Federal Reserve). Issue our own currency, (direct debt), not bonds. The onus of interest will slowly go away.

It won't be over night, but it will get progressively better.

Send the illegals home.

Enough Americans are out of work that they might not be so picky about those jobs they supposedly would not do.

Cut the size and scope of government back to more Constitutional dimensions, and save a fortune, use some of that boon to cut taxes. (yes, cut!--so business, especially small business can flourish, and so individuals have more incentive to make money)

Reduce public relief programs. Subsidizing poverty has caused poverty to become a way of life, instead of getting people to seek ways to lift themselves from their situation--and get the government out of the way.

Cap credit card interest and finance fees to encourage better lending practices. People cannot fuel an economic recovery with usurious interest weighing them down.

I'm no economist, just an oilfield geologist. If we drill for our own oil, on and offshore, there will be a host of jobs created right here at home, and money will not be bleeding into the hands of those who wish us ill, either. Again, removing government impediments is key to this. Federal lease fees and production royalties from onshore and offshore leases alone could go a long way toward paying down the debt.

These are only a few high points, but some of them. Basic Conservative policy, implemented and maintained will save this country, and that means some serious housecleaning at the Federal and often the State level.
