This is a wonderful video made in Washington state. See? We are not all liberals and communists here! And many of us love Sarah. I do.

"The Tri-Cities are in southeast Washington state. Pretty conservative area, although Pasco has become a slum."

Calico, I resent that statement. I live in Pasco and it is the most well maintained of the 3 cities.

Pasco, Washington Real Estate

If it was a slum it would not be one of the fastest growing cities in the Nation.

How long has it been since you have been here?

"Wonderful news, but I wish it was more. We need her to get 50.4 percent of the vote on Election Day...2400 votes here and 2400 there is not enough. What happened to all those 30,000 people that used to show up for her. I wish her the best."

We stayed home because this was a book signing and had limited access. She stayed an extra hour, 3 hrs total, so she could sign more books. Then she walked the line shaking the hands and talking with those who were not able to get their books signed. What a gracious lady.

so true. I just recieved a letter from my Senator after I sent him an email concerning the Ft. Hood shootings. It is so full of double speak it is embarrassing. "we cannot assume all Muslims are susceptible to the same forces or inclinations. We must proceed....without casting aspersions on any particular religion. That being said..." blah blah blah. I never mentioned Muslims in my email by the way.

I think a lot of us love hearing Sarah Palin speak her views clearly without qualification. P.S. My Senator is Richard Shelby.

Just my humble opinion, based on recent visits to relatives in the area (I no longer live there.) The neighborhood where my parents lived when I was born, and where I grew up, are absolutely dreadful. The high school my nieces attend is full of gang-bangers. I admit that Pasco, when I left in 1980, was already showing signs of deterioration, but my last visit shocked me. Downtown is an absolute dump.

True. But Portland is much larger and it’s easier to avoid gang activity. Just stay away from King, most of Lents, Rockwood; keep the kids away from Jefferson and Madison High Schools. Demographics here still don’t indicate as much of a danger for gang activity as does Franklin County (55% Hispanic).

(55% Hispanic)

Is that your main criterion for avoiding an area? Hispanophobia? How do Hispanic FReepers feel upon reading that?

I have never once personally encountered gang activity in my 50+ years in the Tri-Cities. Yes, there is some, but it has never affected me. Maybe someday it will. At least we don't have cross-ethnic gang rivalries as Portland & Seattle do. lol

“Hispanophobia”? Give me a break. I’ve lived in southern California, Las Vegas, Tucson and Hailey, Idaho. To put it bluntly: yes, there is a correlation. I believe that it’s not ethnic, but cultural. Combine “machismo”, an emphasis on immediate economic success over education, and a comparatively large demographic of young men, and you’ve got a gang problem.

She can only sign about 1000 books at each signing, people know this. There is no one that gets 30,000 people at a book signing.

Do you mind letting me know how to find that kind of info
for my neck of the woods? Thanks in advance.

I don’t disagree with what you are saying in this comment; however, “an emphasis on immediate economic success over education” is a description that would not apply as a pan-generalization around here. A good fraction of the entering class each year at Columbia Basin Collage is Hispanic (matching the overall demographics of the Tri-Cities) and as such many of the graduate nurses, dental hygienists and others are of the same ethnicity. Needless to say, I don’t feel in danger walking around that campus even surrounded by all the Hispanic medical students! lol
